F1 2001 a couple of questions

by Arto Wik » Fri, 12 Oct 2001 05:15:00

Sim racers,

today I bought EA's F1 2001, because of lots of good critics here...

Some questions:

1) The fps seems to be problematic: I get much better in F1CS200,
GP3 and F1RC. The "Image quality" selection seems to be the
problem: only "low" is not red.
   My system is AMD1.33GHz / GF2 32, driver NVIDIA 4.12.01.0634.
(By the way, F1 Config seems to think I have 1.1GHz..
the Config test seems to say always: "Triangle rate 1,3MTri/second,
Object Deatail Level: Full, Texture Detail Level: Minimum". Why?)
The resolution doesn't seem to affect much! (I use fraps to
   see the fps.)

2) Is there any way of skipping all the rubbish in the beginning?
Setting video off doesn't seem to set even the start video off!

3) After the race, is there any way of making the irritating
"This was an unforgettable..." shut up? Setting the voice
parameters do not seem to have an effect on this.

[4) Just by accident I found out how to skip the grid presentation.
    Space button helped there... ]

Many thanks in advance!

Arto

PS Yes, the sense of speed seems to be good. So also the physics.
But GPL and N4 perhaps are sill quite far off?  ;)

To get rid of the intro just don't have the game cd loaded while playing...
Using Fraps in the background or editing the ini file (to set the game to
run in windowed mode) cures the frame rate issues...

My framerate was pretty bad at first, but now it runs BETTER and looks
better than F1CS2K. If you have any kind of Nvidia card, download the 12.90
drivers from www.guru3d.com This improves performance GREATLY, also, turn
windowed mode in the config.ini on. I have a P3 667mhz, Geforce 256 SDR,
192mb of RAM, and a Vortex 2 soundcard and I can run everything at high and
some at full with silky smooth FPS, I can run everything at high and a few
things at medium with a full grid and still get about 30fps. Before I made
these changes, I had worse FPS with everything on low and a few on medium.

Errr...the game doesn't run without the CD.  Well, my copy doesn't anyway.
Anyone know of a no-cd patch?
