Hi guys.

I interested in getting the Rockfire games port to USB adapter. It allows
any 15 pin analogue controller to be plugged into the USB port.

Anybody have it and where did you get it from.

Nigel

Radioshack makes one too that the guys at Act-Labs were suggesting.  Don't
have the link on hand though (it's in their catalog).  It supposedly has 4
different settings, 1 of which is for racing controllers.  Don't know what
it does though, maybe smooths the input a little.

Anybody have the radio shack one? I am thinking of giving one a try. I have
high grade pots in my tsw. think this might be an issue (98se)?

I have the Radio Shack jobbie but took it out after a few hours of using it.
I'm running Win XP Pro and just couldn't get it to sample the input
correctly. Rather than giving a smooth input, it seemed as though it was
only reading the pots at four positions through their travel, (read: very
notchy) so it was next to impossible to be smooth on my RRC pedals, which,
btw, kick major butt. Thanks Nigel!!!!

long it's been since I've forgotten anything.

Yes...it will be an issue.  TSW suggests that you use the DK Medium
Grade pots if you plan on using the USB adapter.  According to what
they  say, it doesn't work well with the High Grade SPEC pots because
of the low impedence.  50k Ohm, compared to the 250K Ohm DK Medium
Grade.

Quote from TSW:
"If you plan to use a USB adapter, you must use DK pots, as the USB
adapter is only compatible with 250k ohm pots, and the longer lasting
SPEC potentiometers are 50k ohm."
End Quote

I tried the rockfire some tme ago and it was the same way. Off topic a bit I
wonder what will Thomas Enterprises do down the road? One day gameport
controllers are destined to be a thing of the past (IMO..please don't flame
too hard)

:o)

I just got one to use with my TSW2 and Win XP
It works great except for GP4. I know of 2 other people that can't get GP4
to work with their TSW2's.
It should work in Win 98se.
It shows up in Win XP as a USB controller and calibrates like normal.
You might have to look around in Radio shack for it. Two stores near me
didn't know about it, until I found in hiding on a shelf.  $16.95 American.

TSW's need 250k pots to work correctly with the USB.

I have it, but bought it in a shop in Norway

It uses just a few, about 10 saples for a normal 100K pot. There is a
thread from 4-5 weeks ago where someone answered my question on how
to solve this problem.
Two possible solutions:
1. Change pots. The device works best with 250K/300K pots I think.
2. Change capacitors in the Rockfire.

It was well described, but I have the information at home. I tried changing
pots and it did help a lot. Then I use a special pedal set (Redline) where
pots
are easy to change.

Tell me if you need more information. I will try to find the details.

Ah, a fellow Redline enthusiast :-)

Have you found a reliable source for pots in Norway Ivar, I can't seem
to track down anyone that sells to consumers, not even Arngrehn

I got just bought the Radio Shack one. I had to put the selector switch to
position 4 and it calibrated fine in windows 98se. I use the TSW2 pedals. In
N2002 and GPL they recognize the pedals fine. The calibration is a little
choppy so I call TSW to order the 250k pots. Should get them bye the
begining of next week. I'll post my results. Oh, by the way I still can't
get the TSW2's to work in F12001 or F12002 demo.

Chris G.
-----------------------------------
When you start F12001 or F12002 push the Brake pedal down until you get to
the calibration/assignment page. Then let off and assign.  Worked for me.
In F1 2001 I had to keep the Brake pedal pressed until I got to the track
also.

Richard,

Try windowing out of F1-2002 when you are on the controller assignment
screen.  Go into control panel and open up the applet for your TSW
controller.  Get to the calibration screen where you can see the input from
your pedals and wheel.  Now window back into F1-2002 and see if gets the
game to see your controller.  If that doesn't work go out of the game, then
back in while leaving the control panel applet open.  It's kind of freaky,
but this has worked for me before.  It's worth a shot I guess :/
