Gameport vs Rockfire USB Adapter with DX9.0

by Jim Test » Sat, 25 Jan 2003 18:50:25

Back about six months ago, I bought a Rockfire USB Adapter for my TSW
wheel because the game port produced a lot of twitching. I was using
DX8.1 at the time. The Rockfire cured my problem...no more twitching

...until...

...I installed DX9.0 for my N2003 Demo. Since I installed DX9.0, my
wheel calibration was producing a lot of twitching again while using
the Rockfire adapter!

So I went back to the game port, and to my amazement, there is
absolutely NO twitching like there was with DX8.1! DX9.0 cured my game
port twitching problem!

Anybody wanna buy a good, used Rockfire USB Adapter?
Just kidding...I'll hang on to it, just in case.

Gameport vs Rockfire USB Adapter with DX9.0

I have a TSW2 Modified and was using the USB adapter as well with the DK
Pots with no problems in WindowsXP in GPL and what little NR2002 I had run.

However, I cannot use it in the NR2003 Demo.  Whether it's just a problem
with the BETA demo or whatever, I get extreme jagged movement in NR2003.
The wheel calibrates is WinXP perfectly fine,  and then appears to calibrate
in the NR2003 demo fine with no jumping, etc...  but as soon as I go to
drive it's like Im using a digital controller as "always on" or "always
off".   I generally turn the wheel graphic off but when I turned it on for
analysis, I can see that when I turn the wheel, its not a "gradual" turn...
it's like 30 degree 'jumps' and not a smooth transition.

I have an Audigy Gamer sound card and didn't even install the gameport as I
don't really want to mess with it.
