Game port to usb adaptor

Is there an adaptor that converts the signal from a game port connector
to a usb connector?

My BRD F1 Sim wheel and pedals use an older gameport type connector, but
both my newer pc's do not have game ports, so I need another way of
connecting them?

I do have an old Creative Labs Audigy 2 sound card which has game port
which I could use, but both my pc's have pretty good on-board 7.1 sound
on the M/B's so I do not really need the sound card any more.

Any ideas....

If you want to connect a gameport device, like the BRD  F1 Sim, to an
USB port, you can use a Rockfire USB Gameport adapter. However, the
quality of steering will be less aswhen you used the gameport, because
of the lower resolution the Rockfire uses (being USB, it's digital,
and the resolution is only 7 bits, which means only 127 steps from
lock to lock. You'll wander on the straight)

Another solution is the Plasma Lite V2. You've to rewire your BRD,
maybe replace the pots for better ones, but then you've something. Of
course, still no FF, but then you've to buy a G25.

The Plasma Lite V2 can be bought from:

Or just dig up an old sound card with midi/game port.

Thanx for the info.

I have 2 pc's in my study, one on my desk and one on my BRD Race Frame
Pro***pit.

I also have 2 BRD F1 Sim pedal and steering wheel set-ups, and I had
them both connected (one to each pc) via game ports for LAN racing GPL,
TOCA3, GTR2, GTL, CMR4, etc.

However, I've just built a new pc, with no sound card or game port, so I
cannot connect an F1 Sim to that pc. Its not too bad though, cos I have
already bought a Logitech G25 for that pc.

Would be nice to also be able to connect the F1 Sim to this new pc too
though, hence my question.

Oh, and by the way, 2 pc's, a BRD Race frame pro, 2 x F1 Sims, 1 x
G25.....Yes, I *AM* spoilt...!

Depending on the OS he's running on this might or might not work.
Gameport support os less than stellar in XP, for example. I went the
Plasma Lite V2 route with my TSW pedals, and while the upgrade is a bit
more work than simply plugging in a rockfire converter, it also gives
you much more flexibility with the tons of connectors the PLV2 offers.

Trust me, these gameport->usb adaptors are at best mediocre, including
the rockport one.  The best solution is to keep the audigy2 in the system,
and switch the sound output to the onboard sound (or whatever) using the
controlpanel/sound/Audio tab.  This lets you keep the full backwards
compatibility and performance of the gameport and it won't interfere with
your sound.

Hi Remco,

I have a Hyperstim also and would like to convert from game port to usb,
would greatly appreciate any info on how you did this.

Also do you have the wheel with the 12 buttons on it and were you able
to program these with the plasma v2? also do you plug the game port into
the plasma v2 or do you need to rewire it? If so is it easy to do, no
electrician here :)

I must admit this looks very good with the add-ons, do you have any
add-ons on your setup?

BTW I know Hyperstim themselves have the usb conversion you can buy but
despite the emails and phone calls I have made to them they don't return
my enquiries when available :(

With the plasma v2 seems more configurable and a bit cheaper, I'm in
Australia and last time I heard it was $220 Australian and you have to
send them your controller box and they refit it.

Appreciate any help you can give.

Regards Phil

I rewired it, because I wanted to keep the original wires intact. In
the past I had exchanged the original (blue) 100K ohm potentiemeters
with Spectrol 357 50K ones, since I kept replacing the originals.

To use the Spectrols with the Plasma Lite, I had to use 3 wires, and
the original Hyper only used 2 wires for each pot. So that's why I
decided to rewire. I don't know if you can use the original pots with
the Plasma Lite using 2 wires.

I do have the 12 button wheel, but I didn't  connect them to the
Plasma Lite yet. The problem isn't the Plasma, but I haven't figured
out yet how the wiring of these buttons work. I do recall it's some
sort of 4 in 4 in 4 system, where the combination of active wires
indicates which button is pressed, but I'm not sure about that.
Something for the winter, but that's an excuse you can't use. :-)

The documentation of the Plasma Lite is good, the electrical part
is easy to understand. (It's made by a 1 guy company, and Leo is
very helpfull)

No, not yet. ATM I still place a monitor on the steering box when I
play, but when I switch to a large screen in front of the Hyper (or a
projector), then I might add some goodies like a revmeter.

I'm impressed by the mechanical quality of the Hyper, but less
impressed about the electrical part, so that's why I didn't go the
Hyper USB route. And since I live In Europe, sending stuff to them was
too risky IMO.

The downside of the Plasma Lite is that you can't use the Hyper
profiler software anymore, but the software of the Plasma Lite is
powerfull enough to satisfy your needs.

Cheers!

Thanks for your help
