N2002 Multiplayer question

by Mark Scorp » Wed, 17 Apr 2002 13:24:14

Something extremely frustrating is happening whenever I'm playing N2002
multiplayer.  It seems to be a warping problem, as all the cars on the track
simply disappear, I go a lap or two down, and eventually I'm off the server.
Because this, sometimes I crash, and the entire field starts calling for my
head.  When I first bought the game, it would happen every now and then, but
recently it's happening EVERY race.  Is it a modem problem?   It's downright
frustrating to be running in the top three in a race, and this ***happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

What kind of pings and latencies are you getting when it happens?  You can check by hitting the L
key and you connection values will be listed in chat bar.  Also, you can use ctrl-C to turn on the
comm meters to be able to see it real time.

Mark...

I hear you...that can be really frustrating....and at one time or another,
it has happened to all of us.  I've been racing online for more than five
years.....and you should realize that the Internet....is not a stable
environment.....at its best.  It sounds like you have either a bad "router"
in your connection to Sierra.com....or something up with your ISP.  You
don't exactly tell us much about your hardware, connection type....and so
forth....so there's limited things we can suggest.  The best bet, is to
check your routing to Sierra.com by "pinging" the servers...or something
close by them.  This may disappear, as rapidly as it came.....if your ISP
finds and fixes the problem based on others in your area having similar
problems, and filing complaints with them....but who knows?

Regards,

Tom

And first thing...if you are using a soft or winmodem, throw it away...it
consumes resources that are needed for online racing.  Get a good quality
hardware based modem...usually they are about 20-30 dollars more than the
cheaper winmodems.(it's been awhile since I priced those...best check that
out yourself)  Shutdown all background tasks...enditall2 is great for
this...
I'm sure others will chip in...Eagle woman's
GPL site used to have a pretty good tutorial on tweaking your system for
online racing...
good luck

Mark,

I experienced much this same problem this past weekend. Check out the link
for Alison Hine's Modem Tweaks that is posted in the "Pocono Today" thread.
I will be doing these this evening when I get home and testing it thru-out
this week. Hopefully it will give my connection enough stability to be able
to continue running in the RASCAR events! :o)
