Hi folks,

this is a repost because we're desparate to get this thing
working online.

It's an ECS mobo running an Athlon 1800XP+ if that is any help.
I found a posting on high gear where someone described a
similar problem with an ECS mainboard.

Sierra Support is helpless and "blames Microsoft" as usual, but
a complete re-install did not help, either.

GPL & VROC work fine online.

Cheers & thanks again for your ideas,

Uwe

Hi,

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who has problems with
n2002 multiplayer mode (latest patch on win98se, Fritz! AVM
ISDN).

A week ago, I installed my copy of n2002 on his machine entering
my cd key so he could give it a try, then yesterday he bought
his own copy, deinstalled "my" version and installed his
version using the new cd key on the manual.

Now, when he tries so much as to even host a race (not even on
sierra.com), n2002 just freezes. Same for trying to race on
sierra. Machine dead. Reboot imminent.

GPL works fine online using VROC.

We also tried two different ISPs, achieving the same result,
namley a complete crash.

Could this be related to the same windows installation seeing
two different CD keys?

I'd very happy if you could help us solve this problem so that
we can get down to business and "swap a bit of paint" as they
say!

Cheers & thanks much in advance,

Uwe

Can your friend run a race against the AI ok?  I don't think it's related to
the CD-key.  Maybe there's a conflict between the ISDN modem and the video
card.  The graphics on GPL aren't as detailed as N2002, so maybe the extra
processing power/RAM needed throws the system for a loop.  Try turning down all
the graphics to a minimum, and see if it works.

Hi folks,

the problem was solved by disabling "look for modem" in
core.ini.

We found the solution ourselves, nothing useful came out of the
support hotline (heck, they even recommended re-installing for
crying out loud!)

cheers,

uwe

I can't say if this helped, but I used -Larry's daemon tools method and
ran for about an hour a Pokeyknow last night without locking up....My only
trouble was I was using fast and everyone else had something a little
faster...  :)
Again, I have not run enough online to verify if this helped or I was just
lucky.

LOL!  I _still_ can't get this to work with N2002/XP/DaemonTools 3.11, and I
kind of invented the damned process :)

i was *** through it so fast, I forget which, but in the readme,
either clone cd or Daemon tools had a big conflict with the Roxio Direct CD.
I kill everything I can, then run daemon...good luck.
