N2002 crashes in multiplayer

by Uwe Schuerkam » Fri, 31 May 2002 16:56:56

Hi,

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who has problems with
n2002 multiplayer mode (latest patch on win98se, Fritz! AVM
ISDN).

A week ago, I installed my copy of n2002 on his machine entering
my cd key so he could give it a try, then yesterday he bought
his own copy, deinstalled "my" version and installed his
version using the new cd key on the manual.

Now, when he tries so much as to even host a race (not even on
sierra.com), n2002 just freezes. Same for trying to race on
sierra. Machine dead. Reboot imminent.

GPL works fine online using VROC.

We also tried two different ISPs, achieving the same result,
namley a complete crash.

Could this be related to the same windows installation seeing
two different CD keys?

I'd very happy if you could help us solve this problem so that
we can get down to business and "swap a bit of paint" as they
say!

Cheers & thanks much in advance,

Uwe

"Uwe Schuerkamp"
Sounds like some registry settings got left behind from your copy.   Best
thing would be to completely un-install, the use regedit to first backup
your registry then search and find every nascar/sierra/papyrus listing, if
those are releated to n2002, then delete those as well.
Good luck.

Did you remove the old Papy folder?  It doesn't get removed when you
uninstall (that I remember).

I would back up the player folder and replay folder (if needed) and anything
else that you want to back up, then uninstall, and then completely delete
the Papyrus folder from the root of the C drive (assuming you installed to
the default folder).

Then, reinstall the game completely, set up your driver, and then move the
necessary setups folder, etc... back over to the new player folder.
