F1 2K or RC2K????

by Thomas Soerense » Fri, 31 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I feel like buying a new game/sim today which of the above mentioned
should I have a go at?

Pro for F1 2K: Formula 1, new, F1, AI patch soon
Con for F1 2K: Heavy on CPU, crappy AI,

Pro for RC2K: Grafix, RS Shifter support
Con for RC2K: Steering, Rally

Which would you recommend?

My system is:

3dfx Voodoo 3 3000
256 MB PC100 Ram
Act Labs Force RS
Act Labs RS shifter

Hey Thomas,

Get them both! <g>

Seriously though...since you're a GPL enthusiast I think you'll have
more fun driving F1-2000. As a simulation I believe RC2000 is more
fun, because  F1-2000 doesn't have a F1 feel to me.  But it seems
you're not a rally fan....

Your system is almost the same as mine (well, I've more RAM :-P), and
both will run well, but you've to turn down a lot of options in
F1-2000.

F1 2K or RC2K????

by Thomas Soerense » Fri, 31 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I had almost decided on RC2K - Im joining this MGPRS2 Lan league - we
are 6 guys racing on lan about once a month. So I thought Id
concentrate on that (MGPRS2) untill GP3 comes out.

I really like the grafix of RC2K and the support for the RS Shifter -
GOD - why did I put myself in this dilemma?

I am a rally fan - but more of a F1 fan.

Im not helping myself here - S**T

Should I discard the heating bill and get them both?

AAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Sure, just overclock your system - that takes care of the heating bill and
leaves more cash for games!

get RC2K, you won't regret it - it's a good game and it even works on
simulation level - by the way, the final version of RC2K is much better than
the demo they released some time ago, so don't judge the game from the demo
experience. Forget F1-2000 - it's a really bad sim and i'm sure that there
will be no support for it, EA is happy that so many people buy their
unfinished ***and now will move on to F1-2001.

cheers,
Alex

Yeah nice advice you gave him, French. I think that was just the type of the
reply he didn't want to get. Anyway I wouldn't really know cause it's been
about 6 months since I've been away from car simulations but I still enjoy
playing Sports Car GT a lot.

Wishkah
(Get a Voodoo5 PLEASE, I just bought 3dfx stock and it ain't doing that
great)

F1 2K or RC2K????

Alex,
Although I agree that it is very unfinished, I really dont think
its a bad sim, its the best modern GP game about.  We have been playing
MGPRS2 on LAN since it came out and its handling is appauling compared to
F12K.  I really think people are being too *** it, for 9 months work it
is an incredible achievment and a very playable game....the physics are
excellent.  I really can't wait until F1 2001, I think that it will be an
absolute corker!

Ash

PS.  Its not a patch on GPL though...lets make that clear ;)

F1 2K or RC2K????

by Thomas Soerense » Sat, 01 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I ended up getting RC2K

Damn what a fine game - the sense of speed is IMHO the best - it even
surpasses GPL in this department.

And the graphics - WOW.

Im glad I got this one since it seems to run ok on my system.

Does anyone know what feature to turn off that gives the biggest leap
in FPS - I currently have 15 - 22 fps when driving.

Did you get the latest patch? You could reduce the drawing distance
with a value in the RAL.CFG....

for the draw distance?

patchmaxdrawdistance=xx where xx is a number from 4 to 12....
Don't forget that the RAL.CFG must be in the VAR folder...
