I was just wondering what other think...

Is it ok to download a full version of a game if you are going to buy
it at a laer date? and..
Is it ok to download a game if you like sit on the benefit and have no
money whatsoever (say you won the computer and a life time internet
connection :)?

I've made myself a very strong mental note not to download GPL, as I
want the full blown surprise when I get the legal version, no cut
off's or trims on the side.
Responses welcome :)

It depends strongley on this:

I live in The Netherlands and mosty a lot of games are never released over
here.
When GPL will be released at a MUCH later time then in th US, UK and Asia
I'll certainly try to get a warez version untill it's in the stores.

For instance :  when it's in the US in 30th september and in the UK 30th
oktober and in Asia round december, and around the newyear in Holland.

Imho that's not very fair towards all those people (like ME) who buy a lot
of games every year, but have to buy it for $60 if it's $40 in the US !!!

See ?

You know, when I heard about the warez version, I had the same
thought...and came to the same conclusion as you did, I don't want to
spoil my fun by obtaining the game illigal...

We've waited so long, a couple of weeks more doesn't matter. I wan't
do enjoy buying the game, going home with it, unwrap it, installing
it, and then, playing it

"Illegal" means "illegal"

You can't have an each-way bet on the term......there is no "just a
little-bit illegal"!

Given the rates I have to pay for the phone connection, it will be
cheaper for me to buy the legal version than to d/l the pirated one.
Since downloading is not an option for *me*, I think it's wrong for
*everyone*. ;)
Seriously, though, I think that huge numbers of downloads will only
give the cracker d00dz satisfaction and give headaches to the
producers. I can and will wait the few days for the legal version to
hit the shelves, although it will be hard to wait.

How likely is this kind of situation? :) It's far more likely that you
seem to have the choice between new hardware and new software. In this
case, most people would rather steal the software than the hardware,
since it's easier and you're less likely to be caught. But it's theft
anyway. To claim that you wouldn't have *bought* the program in the
first place may be true sometimes (few of the students I know would
ever have paid $399 for some Office package, but would have used a
cheaper program instead), but it is too easy a way out of a m***
question. Especially when the jobs of a few talented individuals *and*
the future of your favourite entertainment are at stake, it is a m***
imperative and plain common sense to pay for your software.

This is one reason not to download warez. Another one is the
overhyped, yet real danger of viruses and trojan horses.

AFAIK downloading software isn't illegal...running / selling /
spreading it, however, is...

But hee, I'm no lawyer, so I could be wrong. (And  normally, I am).

Sorry, I don't see.

I want Motorhead.  I want Screamer Rally.  Neither has been released in
the United States.  So should I donwload the warez version?  No, I will
NEVER support the warez system in general.

Yes, I'd rather do without.  No, it's not fair but neither is playing a
game I haven't paid for.

Let's say you download GPL.  You wait and wait for the commercial
release but let's suppose (like Motorhead in the US) that you have to
wait for 6 months.  If you no longer play GPL then (whether your sick of
it or something better is taking your time) are you telling me that you
will still buy it and just put it on the shelf?  If you got 6 months of
play out of GPL then you owe them that, but would YOU do it?  Would the
average consumer?

I can see people saying that they want to try it out, I just can't bring
myself to be in cahootz with the warez people.

heck, it can't be that easy to find - i tried and never did see it available
anywhere. i have never heard of "warez" before. in looking around some of
the newsgroups, i noticed quite a bunch of people that seemed to be willing
to take days to piece together a $20-50 bit o' software. is $50 really that
much money where it causes people to resort to these extremes? shoot, i
figure that if i stop sniffin' glue for a coupla nights, i should have no
problems buying GPL the week it comes out. the week it comes out. the week
it comes out...huh?

I'm referring to the illegality of the act itself.
If you obtain property known by you to be stolen then what you are doing
is illegal.
It's also morally reprehensible.

You know guys, where there is a will, . . . there is a way? I wanted
TOCA real bad - its been in Europe for HOW long? well, I got the Import
some time ago cause I found a store that sold them. So I imagine that
there might be SOME store by you that could get US Import games?

Or, . . . like my one buddy who just HAD to have EF2000 Graphics+ - he
ordered it from DID directly and they shipped it to him. Cost him a bit
more, but he GOT it before many others here in the States.
