Given the rates I have to pay for the phone connection, it will be
cheaper for me to buy the legal version than to d/l the pirated one.
Since downloading is not an option for *me*, I think it's wrong for
*everyone*. ;)
Seriously, though, I think that huge numbers of downloads will only
give the cracker d00dz satisfaction and give headaches to the
producers. I can and will wait the few days for the legal version to
hit the shelves, although it will be hard to wait.
How likely is this kind of situation? :) It's far more likely that you
seem to have the choice between new hardware and new software. In this
case, most people would rather steal the software than the hardware,
since it's easier and you're less likely to be caught. But it's theft
anyway. To claim that you wouldn't have *bought* the program in the
first place may be true sometimes (few of the students I know would
ever have paid $399 for some Office package, but would have used a
cheaper program instead), but it is too easy a way out of a m***
question. Especially when the jobs of a few talented individuals *and*
the future of your favourite entertainment are at stake, it is a m***
imperative and plain common sense to pay for your software.
This is one reason not to download warez. Another one is the
overhyped, yet real danger of viruses and trojan horses.
