F1 2001 exactly WHAT IMPROVED ?

Hi
besides updated track and cars
and perhaps added weather effects,
what SIGNIFICANT CHANGES that improved
gameplay, reviewing of driving or telemetry ??

in short, anything that helped you improve your
driving and game play ???

Most of the reviewers concentrated on graphics
and " WOW, it is great " but could not quantify
what IS great.

Spinning when down gearing is not an improvement
to the game that I am looking for........

FOR EXAMPLE, in F1 2000 I hate the replay buttons that
insist you keep your finger on the mouse to get
forward.
Any improvement there ?
Perhaps a progress bar to show how much more tape ?
more camera angles ?

These would help you review and check your driving
and how the AI block or rammmed you etc.
To me, that would help my driving.

or how about the radio messages ?
any improvement there, giving better advice / info ?

Progress bar in the***pit view, did that improve
and allow you to gauge how much further in front
is Montaya ?

No telemetry.  But according to Eldred, those are just squiggly lines
anyway.  :)
Driving school and testing with built in challenges to teach you proper
technique are in the game.
Great is better than what was before.  Great is fluid graphics which lend
themselves to better car control.  Great is graphic detail that equals or
exceeds all F1 sims except maybe F1rc.    The 'better' looking a sim is, the
less time your brain needs to decode what is going on.  By that I mean, if
you have fuzzy in-distinct graphics...(kinda like F12k without FSAA) then
you sometimes have to peer into the graphic murk to really see what is going
on.  Even if this added concentration is for mere microseconds, it steals
away time your brain could be using to understand that hitting the onrushing
wall might be a bad thing.
So  because the bulk of improvements to F12001 come in the field of racing
physics, this isn't important?   it's not so much that you can induce a spin
while downshifting, but rather WHY you can do that.  The program's
improvements in physics  is apparently head & shoulders above it's
predessors in this respect.   And this leads to a more realistic racing
experience.

So what you are looking for are NOT so much things that would improve
the game, but features you felt were left out of F12k.

FWIU most of the menu's and such have been kept similar to the original.
This because EA wanted continuity.  Perhaps others can elabarote more on the
similarites and differences from past versions.   JB?
The mini-map on the bottom of the screen?  This was in SCGT and F1cs.  I
would assume F12k also had this feature.  Dunno about the new one.  F12001
has several switchable lcd screens on the wheel that will allow you check
your lap times and the gaps to the cars ahead & behind.
Not all, but a  majority of users here so far, seem to think F12001 is a
big improvement, not only from CS but GP3 & F1rc.  However, it is lacking
some features that you and others deem important.  I would guess the short
development time from CS til now may have limited the feature list that ISI
was able to work on.  I would suspect that clever folks out there will
figure out a way to extract the data from replays or something similar and
construct their own telemety programs.
My own wishlist would be to find someway to zapp those damn chicanes from
Monza, Imola and elsewhere.

How about a 200hz physics engine? F12000 used a 50hz physics engine.

Actually I read that some of the team members at ISI started working on the
new graphics and physics engine almost 18 months ago! I hope they listen to
our feedback and implement features (and fixes) that should have been in
this game for the 2002 version.

GPL uses 288hz :D
Sorry, cheap shot, I'll leave now.

Yea, pretty amazing considering it is three years old.

I'd think that if you were off the track heading for a wall, you'd already KNOW
what was going on...<g>

ok

200 hz over 50 hz sounds good
BUT WHAT DOES that do.....

Well, it allows them to do 200 physics calculations per sec instead of
50. That doesn't mean they did them right though. :-) I don't have
F12001 yet (hopefully today sometime), but from other peoples comments
the physics engine is very good.

I wouldnt say it's very good (the car can BOUNCE around corner - its very
funny) - but it's entertaining, fun, and driveable from the outset

I guess it needs tweaking. At least the cars do bounce though, unlike
the completely smooth tracks in F1RC.

GPL  geez.

Hey I told you it was a cheap shot!
But seriously, I think it was kind of interesting that a 3-year old
game uses 288hz, while the latest modern F1 sim uses 200hz..
I think it was kind of on-topic.

I got my copy of F12001 today. I've yet to see this effect that you
are talking about. Maybe you need to change the stability setting in
the options screen. I'm happy with F12001 so far. Beats F1RC easily.
Maybe the tracks aren't as faithful, but the AI is way better than
F1RC.
