As far as guys not knowing they are warping, if they are running with their
connection meter displayed, it is very easy to tell if you have a bad
connection. For instance, normally I have a great connection, however at the
Dega race my meter was spiking every minute or two, it would be fine then
the latency and stability meter would gradually climb, and get into the red
for a moment, then go back down to normal. After just a few laps, someone
mentioned that my car was going in and out, and so I knew for sure that I
had a connection problem, and pitted and exited the race.
For those of you that might not be familiar with this meter, you press I
believe ctrl c to display it. I always race with it displayed in
mulitplayer.

Same here Edward, but I have experienced it from time to time. Sometimes
cable connections go south as well.

Ditto here, as a matter of fact, I love my router so much that when a storm
came through and fried both my router and my network card a couple of weeks
ago, I immediately went to Best Buy and picked up another network card and
Linksys router.

Correct, cable is wonderful, and when it is good it is good, but when it is
bad, it  can really go bad.

Thanks, I'll check it out, in the mean time I'll turn it off while racing

Was that a green car? I saw one disappear in front of me for a
couple of seconds only to reappear on entry into the next
corner. Scary!

I'm very sorry if I caused any trouble. Can you be more
specific what incidents you are referring to? I saved the
replay and am willing to "repent" in public ;-)

if you have an old pc and a 2nd NIC lying around somewhere
(anything from 486 and up is fine and probably doesn't even
require active cooling nor a hard disk), then there are several
linux-on-a-floppy distributions that will do just that for you.
FLI4Linux is one, coyote Linux another (most of them even come
with windows based configuration programs).

In the Player.ini
Down in the Personal Information section is an option to show meters.

showCommMeters=1                         ; communications meters on/off?

1 is on.

Yesterday was fun. I tried to stay out of the way of  faster cars. I hope I
didn't hold anyone up. I know I slowed DGF up once, but I was watchin what
was going on in front of me during a restart. Sorry. I try to let everyone
go by as soon as I can.

Absolutely no apology necessary :)

I'm just trying to get a handle on NR2002's online idiosyncrasies. It's
starting to make some sense ;-)

If you click on the 'entries' tab during practice.warmup, you can see the state

You're missing the point Eldred (like you missed a great race... a
wedding? -sheesh!!).

Connections looked ok to me, both from the entries tab as well as on the
track. Whereas Ed and Bamadano appeared to warp to other people. This means
N2k2 is glossing over a connection problem on the part of either the
mentioning or the warping driver from my perspective and is something I need
to know about when dealing with these individuals.

I agree, it was a fun race with a surprisingly clean start and
a few yellows.

I think I earned the "most stupid move of the day" award by
"unsafely entering the pits" after my *qualifying run* if you
can believe it. My time would have put me in the top ten, but I
had to start from the back. 8-P

Nearly as bad as my first RASCAR race when I overtook on going
green *before* crossing the line, earning me a black flag. You
never stop learning. <shrug ;->
