GPL & Voodoo2 glitch?

by Michael E. Carve » Tue, 14 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Is it just me (of course it is -- you idiot)?  When ever I try to run
the GPL demo with my Voodoo2 card, the front tires develope a white
threading (sorta like the steel belts are showing through the tread --
and of course I know they didn't use steel belted tires).  Also the
Goodyear on the side gets whacked out and also shows up as white cross
threads.

GPL & Voodoo2 glitch?

I'm running GPL with a Voodoo2 card and haven't experienced any of that.
My graphics initially were scrambled (track graphics) but I downloaded the
new reference drivers from 3dfx.com and my graphics are really nice and
smooth, great framerates as well (233mhz, 64mg ram).

I dloaded the updated drivers and couldn't get them to install.  The
tab that the instructions say to click on (drivers) does not exist for
me.  How can I install these manually?  the track is hosed on my
Blaster2 and that makes it very hard to navigate. :-)

Took me a little while to realize why The Glen looked so different and
only had 8 (?) turns as compared to N2. :-)

GPL & Voodoo2 glitch?

I had only 1 problem with my DM3DII (black spots on the track
-fixed by turning off gourad in options)
Installed the "gold" drivers everything smooth as silk. I had
some instillation problems what "I" did was to remove the card from
the properties menu and reboot. 95 had enough info at that point to
re-id so tell it to use the drivers in the the directory where the
"gold" drivers are and off you go: bty: you will loose the cards
interface on the control panel but you will get the V2 one instead, No
speed slider but WAY morew options compared to Diamonds
Anway good luck .. boy was that long or what :)

For some odd reason (maybe it's win95 retail version), the drivers tab
doesn't show up because the *.inf file is in a sub-directory called
Other in the Windows\Inf folder.  You can get your driver tab back by
copying the "3Dfx Interactive, Inc.VOODOO2.INF" or "Creative
LabsVOODOO2.INF" or whatever VOODOO2.INF file to the Inf directory.
Copy the file, don't just move it.

Then delete the Voodoo2 Accelerator entry in the Device Manager, press
"Refresh".  It should come back, if it doesn't you may need to restart
windows.  Now it will be ready for changing drivers.
