What is a good game?

I have all the Need For Speed. What other game offers good racing that does
not confine you to a track that just keeps going around and around ?? I
enjoy games with racing through cities and country side. I find tracks
boring, that is why I do not like any of the Nascar games.
Any suggestions ?

Its not a car but Motocross Madness 2 has great races across rather
large mountain/hill areas. Very fun game.

I think Insane also had open world racing in 4x4 pickups and dune buggy
type cars.

Try both demos.

Can't think of any others at the moment.

Well, for new games your obvious choices are Mercedes Benz World Racing and
Ford Racing 2, which are both fairly Need for Speed-ish.

For older games you might consider Midtown Madness 2 and Driver/Driver 2. If
driving off road is not "too much" countryside for you, you might consider a
rally game. Colin McRae series, Rallysport Challenge, Mobil 1 Rally
Championship and Rally Trophy are good examples of the genre; the latter 3
edging more towards realism.

I you have a wheel/pedal combo you could also consider Grand Prix Legends.
Both among the original circuits as well as the user-made add-ons there are
a host of city streetcicuits and tracks which are basically country lanes
strung together or a combination thereof (Sachsenring springs to mind).
Warning: we're talking a different kind of game here, which could lead to
serious sim ***ion. <g>

Screamer 2 has 'city/country' races...

Just buy Grand Theft Auto (whatever version) and never come back to this
newsgroup.

I agree, Grand Prix Legends is the "Ultimate" racing simulator for the PC.

Please forgive Frank; he is a little 'intense' when it comes to computer
simulations. He is sort of the resident looney of this newsgroup.
Sometimes sane, other times not. Hard to tell.

Based on the thread's title, maybe Rick M should have posted his question at
"rec.autos.games"?  ;-)

Try Driver and maybe Midtown Madness series. Neither is
strictly racing, but it's kinda fun driving around.

Otherwise, try some offroad racing sims.

Eh that's a funny one.  It would depend if the tracks.. err cities would be
accurate.  I demand the full cities to be GPS-accurate to the half inch!
Nothing less! I demand it!

GTA3 or GTA:Vice City are far more fun than MM.

Hey I can't even tell myself most of the time.

Anyway, my point is a little true.  He obviously wants something that isn't
what we research in a simulation.  I'm sure the guy would even like the
"driving" part of the GTA series.  It's as average as the Madness series.

Althought... having something truly accurate, some sort of FS2004 but at a
smaller scale for more accuracy (perhaps a 100kmx100km squared world?), open
ended with all terrains forms so you could create your own forms of racing
here and there (rallies, mountain climbing, dirt biking, urban drag racing,
closed city circuits, etc...).  That would be nice.

Unless is comes with leather CD wallets, teddy bears and transporter busses.

Have you tried Midtown Madness 3 on the X-Box ? The Paris map is very
accurate.Especially the area's around the major tourist attractions. Les
Invalides, Tour Eiffel, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, etc.
I was only 12 when I went to Washington, so maybe one of our American
cousins who's played the game can say if it's accurate.
