RASCAR: Daytona!!!!!

Hope that got your attention. :-)

I'm intentionally going to be a d**k in this post.

Anyone who enters this race better be able to run a tight line, lap after
damn lap with the fast setup. That includes in heavy traffic coming out of
the corners. If you can't, then practice and practice and practice until you
can. Use aids if you have to. Use steering help. Use whatever you need to
but make sure you aren't drifting.

Also, turn on the ideal line and use that as a guide to MAKE SURE YOU AREN"T
DRIFTING UP THE TRACK. Check the replay TO MAKE SURE YOU AREN"T DRIFTING.

Post replays somewhere and show what you can or can't do and ask for help if
you need to. No shame there at all.

Why am I coming off like a jerk? Because we've absolutely SUCKED at the SS
races in these first two seasons. Nobody can dispute that.

The same mistakes have been made race after race after race after race after
race after race. Frankly, I'm sick of getting wiped out by people. I've had
better SS pick up races on Papy servers than I've had in RASCAR. For some
reason we are awful on these tracks.

Also, stop with the bulls**t habit of racing like maniacs for one stinking
position on lap eight, which leads to a yellow. It DOESN'T MATTER!!

Thank you. :-o

You're wasting your time Dave.  No matter how much peeople practice,
there's going to be mistakes and there's going to be warps. We don't
suck any more than anyone else at SS races.  If the patch comes out
in time, we can use it - it's supposed to "lessens the effect of the
draft", so it might help everyone.

If people are drifting high, it's because they blow the entry to the
turn, but don't want to lift to get the car to stay on the intended
line. If the guy up top is crowing them, the guy up top is likely to
get warp-wrecked.  The best thing to do is for the car on the high
line to maintain some decent lateral distance between himself and the
car on the low line.  Sure, the guy on the high line might not make
out as well as the guy on the low line, but losing one spot is better
than been wrecked out or pushed into the wall and loosing a shitload
more.

If it even looks like someone might have a run on you and may try to
stick their nose in under you, don't dive down to protect your
position (you did that a couple times at Papy).  People are equally
guilty of not giving as readily as they take.

In closing, if you expect a perfect race, you're running with the
wrong bunch of guys.  Sure, we occasionally have good races, but more
often than not, we're just average.

I'm personally hoping for more than 16 laps of green flag racing this
weekend.

Here's something funny.  I read the first post, and thought YOU had written it
until I saw *this* one...<g>

Hey David - that was a pretty good John Simmons impersonation. :-)

Funny thing, I have been running the Papy loop servers for about a month
now.  I like the long ovals and I wanted to be able to run something
consistently so I can get used to the car, wheel and settings.  A base line,
if you will. The loop servers always have a good number of drivers, and I
have done well.  Currently I don't q so well.  Setup probably, that and the
papy servers are getting about 25 guys within 6/10 to a second apart in
q,,,in the races.  Starting mid-pack is more dangerous than dead last but I
want the close racing, it's where I need the practice.  I get a lot of top
ten finishes, no top 5's :( but then with the rascar daytona night race
coming up I am racing  offline with the rascar line up and *I suck*.  Maybe
it is a mental thing but I am doing way better on the Papy servers than I
did offline yesterday, will practice more today.  I would definetly like to
run a practice race with the group, haven't checked that thread yet this
morning.....
Ok, so I ramble :-)  The fast setup is sooo ssllooowww.  I have been working
on my own setup for daytona night online and have it running really well in
a draft and not so bad alone :).  I get real loosey goosey in the corners
with a pack of cars around me.  I sure don't want to drift up and if I can I
will actually choose the highline. Better to loose a couple of spots than
hit the wall.  That and I do get a pretty good run going staying high all
the way around.  I think when I first joined rascar someone was talking
about more guys should try that.

Being new to this group I don't know how bad the super speedway tracks have
been unless you want to count last week :-)  As for guideance as to the
proper way to race, well, I do my best.

Not a bad idea... Friday 11pm-ish your time (midnight CET)? -That would give
Brucey Babes an extra two hours of sleep on Saturday morning...

You hosting, BTW? -Cable still shot over here.

We sure do. As I said, I've joined plenty of Papy pick up races that were
better than our SS races.

That's ridiculous though. No one should still be that hard headed to still
be making that mistake.

People slide up the track coming out of the turns WAY too often and take
others out. They need to practice. They need to use the steering assist (set
it 100 if they ahve to). They need to keep the ideal line on as a guide so
they can tell if they are drifting. That's a must for some people. I don't
want to hear about the need for realism after I've gotten slammed into the
wall and my Sat. afternoon is wasted.

Also, there is still silly stuff going on in our SS races like members of
the chase pack fighting for meaningless positions (often leading to yellows)
which lets the lead group disappear off into the distance.

Most tracks are perfectly fine. We are still awful at the SS races because
apparently people insist on keeping the attitude that SS races are easy.
Once AGAIN, there's been amost no discussion about how to race a SS track in
the week leading up to our RASCAR race. People are just going to show up and
the usual results will probably follow.

I really hope I'm wrong. Our goal should be to have a SS race that we'd be
proud to post on the net for others to see.

Yeah, people need to practice more. I say that every6 week. However,
constant ***ing and moaning about it doesn't do any good. Just do
your best, and hope everyone else does too.

The people that are serious about racing do practice. The people that
aren't don't.  We don't currently have any way to distinguish between
the two.  I don't recall that you're exactly perfect. I know I'm
certainly not.  I also know that we've both been the victim of
warping cars, or caught up in wrecks that were caused by nothing more
than another driver's ineptitude, and we've both made our share of
mistakes, but we're both still here, trying to finish on the lead lap
week after week.
