The past 2 weeks Speedvision has had a replacment in for Bob Varsha.  I
assume this is just a temporary thing since I've seen him covering the Tour
De France for Outdoor Life Network.  Any comments on the guy who has been
filling in for him?  For some reason, he's been getting on my nerves.

Sounds like Greg Creamer.  He does the commentary for the US based racing.
His voice annoys me but he seems to know his stuff.

He did better last night and this morning.

What I want to know is where the hell is Steve Matchett? They keep saying
he's on special assignment preparing some sort of show on the tech side of
F1, but I think with the economy in the toilet, SV just doesn't want to pay
to fly him over to the USA to announce with Hobbs, Posey, and
Varsha/Craemer...

He did a terrific job of covering the Mechanical and Engineering side of F1,
rather than just simply provide play by play like typical racing
commentators.

For some reason, Speedvision's coverage has more tolerable since Varsha
vanished.

Where he's actually doing a pretty good job.  However, Jessica Greico and
the other female reporter make me want to stick a spoke in my eye...

Greg Creamer...   A Fox Guy!   he seams to be pretty incompetent in
his knowledge of F1 racing...   seems to get most of his cues from
either the director or producer of the show.   Completely botched the
restart claiming the Prost racer would be driving thew same car as the
one he flipped after running into M.Shu.  YEAH!!!!  He is annoying...
And note:   start of race  " Crank It Up" start of race sound....  The
Invasion of FOX NETWORK has begun!

If only they would shoot Sam Posey.  What a moron.

A Moron that has raced in literally dozens of high level racing
series...what leagues have you competed in?
dave henrie
Whom would you replace him with Al & Bobby Unser?

Except that Bob Varsha says that every time!  "Turn up the volume" on the
starts is nothing new for the Speedvision coverage.

Indeed, they used to do that back when ESPN was sending announcers over to
follow the circus around (1990 or so).

"Turn up the volume and enjoy!"

What does that have to do with the fact that he is an insipid ***?

Bobby Unser is the only commentator who is worse than Sam Posey.  Al Unser is
very good at it, but unfortunately doesn't do it regularly.

I am assuming he was hired to provide expert analysis AND historical
background.   Few other American racers have the depth of his,  Dan Gurney
comes to mind...and Phil Hill, but neither of those have shown any interest
whatsovever in broadcasting.
Personally I like how Derik Daly says Chrysler...we here in the Western US
say Krice-ler  but he puts some 's' into it...the word sounds
like..Kry-ssler .
Of the current crop of American drivers...Eddie Cheever strikes me as the
most 'well spoken' of the lot.  And he does have F1, Sportscar(Jaguar) and
CART & IRL experience.
