Bob Varsha pretty much confirmed that Speedvision next year won't be the
channel we know...With the exception of CARt, possibly F1 and the AMA
superbikes....we may be really limited again.   dang..

If they don't continue to have hour-long FIA-Rally recaps, and the same
endurance racing coverage, I will be committing suicide......

(I can do without all the boat and airplane stuff however)

Yeah, this sucks...NAPCAR is taking over the world of motorsports in the US.
I guess that's what happens in a culture where everything must appeal to the
lowest common denominator to be successful. It's all about television
ratings and the almighty dollar.

Please don't mistake this as a slam on stock car fans, it's just that
Speedvision has been an oasis in the middle of the desert  that is North
American motorsports for those of us who would rather see race cars turn
right *and* left.

  I agree with  Don.
I "LIKE" watching Nascar.  But I also like tons of other forms of
racing.  Speedvision let us see Toca Touring car racing(although not this
past year), it let us see FIA Rallye and FIA endurance and FIA GTS
racing(although not this past year).
Nascar has some sort of affiliation with the AMA now, does that mean that
the MotoGp(silly name for 500cc Grand Prix races) World SBK and other
overseas series will not be shown?  Also they have a connection with the
Grand Am Rolex series...which I think is being renamed to IMSA, bringing
back a great American named league...but will that cost us ALMS coverage?
Everything it seems has a price, and I'm worried that accepting one Form,
i.e. Nascar will severly limit the opportunities we have enjoyed in the
past.

ALMS == IMSA.  Grand Am is still Grand Am.

"AndrewS" > ALMS == IMSA.  Grand Am is still Grand Am.
Cool!  I like that even better...:)  Now if we can just find a network
that will cover them.

AFAIK, ALMS has listed/named Speedvision as broadcaster of live coverage for

Atlanta.

Having said that... perhaps loosing Speedvision would be a good thing... and
make the American pubic get their butts out of the house and on to the
track...  I mean seeing all thise empty seats at Road Atlanta a week or so
ago... made me think if you guys really deserved such a nice race-series.

Believe me Todd, in it's current form, you don't want to watch it. Although
the "standard" cars sometimes provide a bit of entertainment.

Hey now, Ed; some of us did our part! I'm guessing you're referring to the new bleacher-style seats outside Turn 10 (can't bring
myself to call it a chicane - too big).  They were largely ignored, as the RA crowd tended to haunt the more traditional spots (or
were off driving superkarts or autocrossing in the infield back towards 6/7).  Don't know the turnout numbers, but there was a good
crowd.  It was down from the inaugural in '98 which has been stated as 60,000, but comparable to '99 (missed last year).  I was
impressed by the Friday crowd for the support races and qualifying, though.  For a bunch of folks weaned on covered stadiums and TV,
the *** Friday-Saturday morning weather didn't seem too much of a deterrent.

I have heard about the loss of manufacturers and drivers. It's pretty sorry
these days, eh? That's a shame - it used to be good stuff.

I thought Speedvision usually airs the British & Australian Touring Car races in the winter. Am I wrong? I think the series that is now absent is the FIA GT.

BTW, I enjoy the following series...
?Always watch F1, CART, Speedvision World Challenge, Trans-Am, FIM GP 500, Pikes Peak Hill Climb, ALMS, WRC, Paris-Dakar Rally, Le Mans, touring cars (when available).
?Usually watch SCORE, Grand-Am, IRL (when CART drivers are competing), SCCA Pro Rally.
?Will occasionally watch NASCAR (road races only), CORR, offshore powerboats & unlimited class hydroplanes (3 different series whose names I can't recall at the moment), AMA & World Superbike, drag racing.

BTW2, don't watch any other sports (like football, Olympics, etc) except for boxing. With my tastes, the sports page of my local newspaper rarely has anything to catch my interest...
