HELP - GPL a no go on a new MSI Nforce2 WinXP config.

Hi!

I really hope there is someone out there who can help me.

I recently upgraded my computer and now GPL refuses to work. When I run it
in directX, it will load the game, but when you get out of the driving mode,
and the game needs to initialise 640x480 menu screen, it simply freezes the
computer to a point where you need to do a reset! I tried it with the new
OpenGL drivers, and those work OK! Other stuff like Nascar 2003 demo work
perfectly.

My system is an AMD XP2100+, MSI K7N2G-ISLR NForce2 motherboard, 512MB ram,
Leadtek TI4200 AGP8x 128Mb Vivo video card, with the original LWFF logitech
wheel

I have a fresh install of WinXP SP1, and the latest DirectX9.0 drivers,
along with 2.03 Nforce drivers and 41.09 latest official nvidia video
drivers.

DirectX looks so much better than OpenGL patch, but I can't play it now :(
(or I can but only up to the point where I need to return to the menues:)

Thanks for your help - I hope there is still hope for me - the new cars look
stunning a whole new hame now!

Well, that is my problem, I have played GPL with the same direct3d patch for
a long time - and now it refuses to cooperate! And to make things even
wierder, when I first tried it, it all worked - and than, all of a sudden it
stoped!

Have no more ideas - hope someone can help!

I'd try older video card drivers for starters - I've had generally good luck
with GPL and the 30.82 (get them from www.guru3d.com) .

Also, there shouldn't be a visual quality difference between D3D and OpenGL
(assuming you're using the patched version WiHerr did, available at
forum.racesimcentral.com - search for WiHerr) if the card is configured
correctly - ie, make sure Anisotropy is set to 8x, turn on 4x AA, etc.  I'm
running a very similar setup (Win2K and the Leadtek nforce2 board, original
Logi FF wheel, Athlon XP2100+) and it looks and runs great at 1152x864 in
OpenGL.

Hope that helps!
