GPL running too fast on nForce2 board - ideas?

All,

I should appreciate some help getting GPL to run slower on my new system.  I
have recently moved to an Asus A7N8x-Deluxe board, with 512MB Corsair PC3200
memory and an AMD XP 2400+ chip.  It is running at 175MHz FSB and a x12
multiplier for the chip.

GPL actually works fine with this set-up but it runs at something close to
four times normal speed!  I can get around Monza in about 35 second flat but
the game thinks it is taking around two minutes.

All other games (F1-2002, F1-2001, Nascar, TruckRace) run as normal at real
time.  I would hate to think that the best racing game of the lot is not
compatible.

Any ideas please?
