NFS3 woes

by Jon Ballinge » Sun, 01 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

I've currently got a big problem with NFS3.... simply put it installs but
doesn't run. D/clicking on the NFSIII icon gives the hour glass pointer for
a sec or two then back to normal pointer.

System

p233 MMX
64 meg RAM
16x CD-ROM
Pure3D 3Dfx 6meg
S3 Virge PCI 4 meg
Win95 a

Now, this is what I've done so far....

checked for viruses (clean)
Tried software, Direct3D and Pure3D modes
Installed latest driver and backed out to driver on original cd.

Glide's working fine in other games.... in fact I'm biding my time until a
solution comes along with Grand Prix Legends....

Now you may ask *why* I want to play NFS3... well I've just got an MS
ForceFeedback wheel which has allowed me to drive better (not well yet just
better <g>) in GPL but I wanna try some decent FF games.

I've sent a ip.exe email to EA but was hoping anyone here has run into this
and solved it.

btw if it makes a diff NFS is installed on the m: drive and the cd is on the
n: drive.... all three installs have been tried...

i take it you're m drive is a network drive?  if so, that's probably the
problem.  install it to a local HD.  if that is a local HD, woof, you got a
lot of disks.

Nah... it's a local ...

got a 6.4 gig split into

two c:'s (1 gig or so each, dual boot NT and 95)
d:,e:,f:,g:,h:,i:,j:,k:,l:,m: all varying sizes between 100 meg and 1 gig.

If I could lay my hands on a euro cd crack that allows me to copy the cd
files that aren't copied in max install and play it I could check to see if
it's the cd drive that's the prob.

Tried turning off the Pure3D, playing software, installing different
installs...

I had a similar problem...  Finally got the crack and installed 100%
to HDD...  works like a dream now.

I don't want to post the details here.  The game is good and should be
bought.  Mail me if you want more details about the crack.

Can't work it out - just the CD was the problem.

Paul.
