GPL : Patch blues

by M Connoll » Sat, 29 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Thanks to all who educated and encouraged this lurker to go out and get
a Voodoo 3, LWFF and GPL.  I have failed to get force feedback working
in GPL (works fine in SCGT),  and am asking for some help with this
rather dull problem.  Let me recap my actions to date...

1) Installed GPL,  LWFF and profiler program in W98
2) Downloaded and installed latest V3 driver, DX7a, 1.2 patch, &
Alisons LWFF settings - in that order
3) GPL runs beautifully, reporting v1.2.something on startup - but no FF
3) Verified that "Enable FF" switch in core.ini was set to 1
4) Flailed around uselessly turning various things off and on all to no
avail

My first thought is that I should have done the 1.1 patch before the
1.2,  but the 1.2 readme explicitly states that it will upgrade either
1.0 or 1.1   If my first thought was right,  can I just do the two
patches again?

If that's not it,  can anyone suggest how I might fix it?

BTW,  even after reading the glowing reports here,  GPL amazes me.  A
brilliant peice of work,  even if it has extinguished my hope that I
was Senna in the wrong job :-)

Michael.

The core.ini comes (with the 1.2 patch)named core.ini.sample.  You must
rename it core.ini.  Lots of ppl have difficulty with this.  Check the
dos name in properties to make sure it is exactly core.ini.  Upgrading
from 1.0 to 1.2 skipping 1.1 works just fine.

Have you verified that the file is in fact named core.ini and not
core.ini.sample?  Windows likes to hide the extension of registered
file types by default, often leading to this type of confusion.

OK,  feeling pretty sheepish :-|  Thank you to all who responded,  yes
indeed I had failed to rename core.ini.sam to core.ini.

Now I'm enjoying myself even more.  Can it be long before they slap a
tax on laps around Spa?

Thanks again,

Michael

All right!  Another glazed-eyed, sleep-deprived, personal-best-spoutin',
opposite-lockin', four-wheel-driftin', set-up tinkerin' member of the cult!

Welcome, Michael.  The advice you've already gotten will almost certainly
fix your problem.

Just wait until you feel the force!

Have fun, man.

Did you remove the comment marks in the line. This has to be done as well.
