Anyone have any information about Xcar from Bethesda?
Inital pictures and plans look good! If it's customizable, maybe
we''ll finally have a Sim where we can develop our own tracks
and cars!

I heard that there won't be any editors until Bethesda is sure X-Car is a
success. Then there might be performance editors, and then maybe other
editors. The X-Car itself should come out within a month or two.

I was at their offices a couple weeks ago to have a look...

X-Car seems to have redefined the term "sim", in that even though
the game has fanasy-cars, the physics model is very realistic.  They
plan to make available quite a number of utilities, with the first being
an engine editor (horsepower, etc), a tire editor (traction coefficient),
and a fuel editor (don't like the ***s offered?...Create your own!!).

Also, they are looking into porting their track and car (3do) tools to
PC format...This would allow you to create your own tracks, and also
change the shapes of the cars.  I can see leagues forming now:

"Come and Join the X-Le Mans League..."  ;)

A full write up on my first impressions of X-Car will be on the SRN site
in a day or three.<g>

All of Bethesdas games end up the bargain bin shorty after release.
Hopefully, they'll put out something that's fun and worth owning.
From reading the info at the site, this looks more like a game than a
"sim" aka Need For Speed. But hey! I like games too, entertainment comes
in all forms.

Actually from reading about the game in various mags its going to be be as
much of a sim as nascar 2 or indycar, albeit with some nonexistent
automobiles, but you can allegedly tweak the cars much more than even GP2
and more effectively than indycar2, Nascar 2 and GP2.

Just what are these "near future racing machines" travelling at 300mph
simulating? How can one simulate what doesn't exist? To me, a simulator
is a close imitation of the real McCoy. Even without the restrictor
plate we'd need a couple of Pratt and Whitneys to crank 'er up 300
per.<g>

How about a write-up of John's (your partner in crime) impression of
Psygnosis' F1? Please.

Marc, The following quote is directly off Bethesdas site.

"Enter the racing circuit or compete against your friends via modem or
network. X-Car will push your driving skills to the limit as you
negotiate real and concept tracks at speeds approaching 300 mph!"

300Mph?  Where did you get this...

I played the game a few weeks ago, and although it's no GP2-killer, I
think most of us here would have a great time playing it...It's certainly
beyond another_game_that_gets_deleted_off_the_drive type of thing.

I forgot about them having those words.<g>  That page has been up since
last May, and it's changed a lot (I also drove it then, but without AI).
I don't remember seiing the speedo approaching 300.<g>

Also, there are the 5-real tracks along with the fantasy ones, and if they
decide to release their 3D-car editor, then you can drive whatever you
want.  :)

Just keep in mind that when you won't know you're driving an fanasy-type
car unless you drive ala-arcade!!  ;)

Well the experimental cars they are basing X-car on are supposedly in
"real" development
and you can "create" a sim on the weight, suspension properties,
horsepower, arodynamics,etc.
from just those calculations, so getting a true SIM would not be that
hard to obtain, taken
in consideration that all the "experimental" data is correct. Of course
there is alot
of input from drivers that have driven the "real" life counterparts
which I dont know
that the X-car designers have obtained yet. I certainly hope so. These
"type" of cars
are the next generation IMSA cars and it would bring the Nascar and
"open" wheel community
together for good discusion. Which is what its all about, interaction.
That is if the modem
link and maybe IPX option are top notch. Im so tired of not being able
to race a "real"
human in an F1 SIM it makes me sick! Hopefully this will give some
"fresh" air to a different
type of SIM.
