Richard Burns Rally - Thanks Jason!

I saw Richard Burns Rally for the PS2 today lying in a shop. I read
the posts here from Jason Moyer, and allthough I have become very
suspicious about previews and hype since Spirit of Speed '37 (and
Rally Trophy too I must admit), I took the gamble and bought it.

And boy does it live up to the hype.. this -sim- is freaking awesome!!
Simply everything I read in the previews is there.
The most important thing, the feeling of driving a rally car, is
simply fantastic. The learning curve is very steep, on a 10km stage on
average I need the help of the public about 30 times to get my car
back on the road, reminds me of the first days driving GPL.
Thankfully there is a rally school to teach you how to drive these
beasts.. Allthough I played Mobil 1 a couple of years on the pc, I
admit I am very gratefull for this rally school :)

There are a couple of things that could be improved (cockpit view is
in the middle instead of drivers position, loading times) but that is
what sequels are for ;)
I can't wait to buy this baby for the pc so I can play it with my Momo
and pedals instead of the Dualshock2 :)

I read a post here complaining about the sound.. I don't think there
is much wrong with the sound, especially when you knocked your door
off the car the engine sounds great imho..

If you have a PS2 or XBOX, buy it now, mostly because these guys
deserve the money for having the balls to release a SIM for a console
;)

So ehh..
Thanks Jason :)

Hi,
I don't know about Momo Racing but if yours is a Momo Force (red one),
you can plug it in your PS2 USB port and enjoy wheel racing (don't
forget to tell the game to use linear steering, each time I laucnh the
game, I have to tell it to the PS2)

Not sure if this is out on the PC yet (perhaps in Europe?) but if so... Has
anyone been able to compare/contrast the PS2 or XBOX version with the PC
version?

Obviously the PC version will have better graphics, but I've got a pretty
mediocre system (AMD 1.8 Ghz w/64meg GeForce 4 MX video card and 512mb of
RAM) so I'm sure I'll have to tune down the graphics a bit to be able to get
decent framerate on my PC which might make the two versions fairly equal.

Any thoughts?
TIA
Jay J

A review of the PC version is out - and also backs up all the hype.

See  http://www.bhmotorsports.com/preview/RBR

The Author is an experienced SIM racer with a lot of GPL and rally trophy
experience, but had to suck in his pride and go back to rally school in
order to get around the stages in one piece. He claims that after 6 hours of
driving, he has only learned how to do the fast corners well, and still
can't slide around the slow corners well.

I'll be very interersted to see what happens to me when I try the same
thing. I have 10+ years experience real world rally driving experience, but
not in 4WD WRC cars, so suspect that I'll be caught out as well.

I tested it today and it works perfect! Now I'm even more
enthousiastic about RBR than I allready was..the handling of the car
is just totally awesome.

I'm surprised there is not much talk about RBR here on RAS, I think
this is going to change once the pc version has been released ;)

I agree, I set my son's Momo wheel up with the ps2 over the weekend.
Took a while to get the hang of it, but  must say I'm very impressed and
looking forward to the pc version.
