RASCAR: New Hampshire race...

by Ed Solhei » Mon, 15 Sep 2003 08:34:51

What a race! :-)

Well all right... we still got a some way to go in therms of yellows...  but
I really do see some progress being made :-)
Unfortunatly I was'nt able to save replay nor results so I dont have the
ecaxt results at hand....  but I think we had 10 cautions - including the
one in the last corner...

I had a very good race - although I should have had a better result as the
"##& sim f****d up and gave me a "bogus black flag";   Unfortunatly I
messed up and exceeded the pitspeed during a stop....  I was trying real
hard to get out into the lead again...  - too hard actually, as I got BF for
speeding.  Anyway, that was not a big deal to me... I went to the end of the
longest line and waited...And that's when the shit hit the fan...  Suddenly
my spotter tells me to let "the 99 car go by"... only problem was that the
99 car *was* ahead of me....   not only that he was 3 laps down too...  So
whitout no hope of getting it clearded I got a BF and had to stop - twice -
'cause the sim goofed up and started working on my car...  In the end I
goofed up again and speed once again... and before I knew it... I was 3 laps
down.. :-/

I tried my best to grab them back without ruining anyone's race.. and with
some co-operation from the leaders I slowly managed to crawl my way back up
the field...  By lap 100  of the 120 I was back on the lead lap...
And with fresh tired on the last green - I tried my best to get into the top
5 - having an awesome fight with Jurjen, Bluestringer and Larry.  I just
drove the hell out of the car trying my best to get by any of them - with
out screwing up...   but those guys put on a real hard clean fight and in
the end I had to settle for 7th or 8th I think...
I was passed Bluestinger at one point too.... but he fought back and got by
me then very next lap...   Toward the end of the 17 lap stint my RF-was
really gone and I had a big push out of 2 and 4.

Even though the evening didn't go quite as planned....I had a great time...
I had a lousy start of the evening too... as my throttle spring broke prior
to the race... and I had to install a new one.... I just managed to make
it... having to drop qual in order to get things in order...

In all the fuzz and cuzz... I even forgot what key to press in 'TS' too - so
I had a hard time trying to talk to the others....  I must have been going
"hallo" for the first 30 laps or so - testing every key on my keyboard...
LOL!

Anyway... con'grats to Neil for winning and to everybody else for finishing.

Oh - sorry  Uwe - I really didnt mean to***up on that re-start...  I
wasn't expecting you to slow that early - although I should seen it coming.
I got a good start and Don got a poor one so I went low to get by him..
I hope we can get some rules to avoid things like that in the future...
nontheless...  *my bad*.

I'm so glad that you apologized to Uwe for putting me out of the race
when I was leading, Ed.  A simple rule would be:  Don't f**king run into
cars that are ahead of you, no matter how goddam eager you are to get
into the lead in the first corner of a restart. How about that one?

We (Uwe and myself) were two a*** going into the first corner of a
restart.  That means you cannot pass there and have to slow down - how
difficult is that to understand?  Does it take a rule?

Don D in KC,  someone who didn't finish, and didn't even get the
courtesy of an apology.

Uwe slowed  down wayyyyyy early going into the corner. Heck, he was still on
the straight when he slowed down, not even to the lights or the 3 marker. I
don't think Ed was at fault there. I punted Jerry(#39) in the same corner
when we tried to slow for Uwe.

If my actions caused your retirement...  I'm very sorry.

I screwed by misjudging Uwe's braking point and gave him what looked like a
"tap"  in *my end*, I knew I'd made a fool of myself, but I had no idea who
got caught in it.

Again - I'm sorry.

Thats sounds very similar to my incident with Jerry Sterner, 100% my fault,

    <snip>

    <snip>

I was bumped in a corner (not sure if it was my fault,  [I may have moved
down]) and spun lightly towards the wall; but right at impact the game did a
CTD.  I quickly restarted the game and rejoined the server.  I got out of
the pits before the yellow laps were complete and that is when the incident
Ed describes above occurs.

My spotter is yelling at me to pass Ed, who as we all know is right behind
me.  My position list in the race doesn't show any laps down so I just
figure the game has become fuddled.  Then with one lap until green my
spotter says I'm not on the lead lap and to head up the inside line.  Other
then my spotter telling me to head to the inside line on subsequent restarts
after yellows I never got any other indication of being laps down for the
rest of the race.  My position list never  corrected so I had no idea of how
many laps down I might be.

Other then this confusion I actually enjoyed much of the day.  ;o)

Elrrikk

PS.  I didn't save the replay (because of the CTD earlier) but will download
it when posted on the web site.  Will make all due apologies then.  ;o)

Accepted, Ed.  I was really upset, as I had just inherited the lead for the
first time and didn't even make the first corner of the first green flag
lap before being taken out.

The car ahead of you has no obligation whatever to go into a corner the way
you want them to - It's your responsibility not to hit them, plain and
simple, as Ed himself admitted.  If Uwe, in this instance, didn't want to
race to get his lap or laps back, that's his decision and needn't be
punished with being taken out of the race.  In addition, restarts are
always dangerous and one has to be extra careful.

Despite the yellows i had a great race. I especially enjoyed passing
bluestringer on the outside, running 2 laps side by side. Great racing
bluestringer :-)
My apologies to Jerry Sterner for the punt in T3, *and* for me foolishly
going 3 wide on the backstretch causing me to hit you in the side :(

RASCAR: New Hampshire race...

I think this is good example of why my strategy on restarts works. If I'm on
the lead lap, run wide at turn 1 and let them through.  On cold tyres on a
restart, early in the race, I'm not going to fight for position.  Late in
the race, I've been leaving the door open, but not as much as early in the
race.
Having said that, now that you guys have had a few races to get a look at my
driving and me at yours, I may start to fight for position a bit more.

Twelve cautions for 45 laps is "good racing"?

Maybe I have to adjust my definition of both "good" and "racing"...

grub

by grub » Mon, 15 Sep 2003 21:35:15

Well, since I didn't save the replay either, I dont know who to thank,
who to call to the carpet, or who to blame my mistakes on. I will say this
though, thanks to all you nuts who used the grubbat dodge as a puntee. I
will never again post "damaged and off pace"  because its like an open
season to pass/punt. The divebombing was terrible, even on the lapped cars,
the apparent blocking at the start of the race was just ***, and the
cars that were lapped down and racing for postion was just smelly. Several
times it appeared to me the driver in front of me was breakchecking in the
middle of a turn which required me to slam on the brakes.
I had a good run at the beginning and enjoyed the passing and
manuvering. That was fun and it required very good driving skills and a keen
situational awareness of the racing enviroment. (pardon me while i pat the
grub on the back). All of this gentlemanship apparently ended after the
first caution. :(
As usual, all is well as I am fixing the grubat dodge and getting ready
for the next race. The best way to fix all of these things mentioned above
is just to be faster, more consistant than the other guy and then I wont
have to worry about anything......except for divebombing.
