I saw some really good racing last night and that was what I commented on.

Yes..  far to many cautions.... but ironicly I needed quite a few of them
last night :-)

Even with the 12 cautions it was a very enjoyable race. Lots of good side by
side clean racing. I got into some great battles with serveral drivers.

Things started great.  We had a good run at the start and things spread out
pretty good.  After the first caution though things went south pretty quick.
AS we all know cautions breed cautions.  Beyond a few too many yellows it
was a really fun race.  I witnessed quite a bit of give n take throughout
the race.  There were a couple pretty ugly wrecks (racin deals) but overall
things really werent to bad.  We ALL still need to focus a little better and
maybe a tad more give n take early in the race.  I'd like to see some green
flag pit stops personally.

Overall Id say guys are showing more respect to fellow competitors.  This is
what we need to reduce yellow laps plain and simple.

NP Ed, I slowed early to leave the faster guys a bit of room on the
outside on cold tyres and all that, so well, a racing thing I
would guess.

cheers,

uwe

RASCAR: New Hampshire race...

by Larr » Tue, 16 Sep 2003 13:58:41

I've come to HATE this race track.  Especially with fixed setups.  Like
Darlington, I say "Chop it up" :)

This thing is basically two drag strips with a U-Turn at each end.
Grrrr..... :)

Anyway, this certainly wasn't my best performance ever.  I punted two cars
in one race, and that's more cars than I've hit all year put together (of my
own fault, of course).

Sorry Bos and Bama.

Did anyone else feel like this setup resulted in 'weak' or 'soft' brakes ?
Sometimes I was flooring the brake pedal and it felt like I had anti-lock on
(I did not) or the pedals were mis-calibrated (they are not).  Just didn't
seem to have the braking power I'm used to everywhere else.

Plus I was driving a brick.  I pretty much avoided the first incident, but
then someone came through it at high speed and pile-drove me into the wall.
Not sure who it was, and it really doesn't matter.  My car drove like 'the
truck' from that point on.  I was still fast, but I had to stop at every
yellow and keep the tank completely full to keep weight at the rear to make
it liveable.  The longer run near the end really hurt me in this regard.
Oh, well :)

Hey, it's New Hampshire.  It's famous for being a tough track.  I really
don't have any complaints about what went on, save one...

For heavens sake folks, CLOSE IT UP when the yellow comes out.  I don't
remember who it was (and again, I don't care really), but during one yellow
there were two cars farting around nearly 1/2 lap away from the next closest
car, and they were making NO effort to catch up.   I needed to get into the
pits, and I couldn't get there in time because of this.

Next Race!

Yeah, that's another problem at this track.  18 cars, 18 different braking
poings :)

I spent most of the week nailing down precise braking points so I could run
consistent lap times without eating up the tires.  I accomplished that, but
then had to deal with 17 other drivers with a different idea on where the
braking point is :)

On the start of the race, Neil broke way, way before I expected anyone would
and I was *** the binders 200 feet before my braking point was even
near.  I just missed him.  That was the one time during the race I think my
brakes locked up.  From that point on, I couldn't do it if I tried.  I'm
still confused about that, unless the damage I took on during the first
incident (which I had cleared but then got run into the wall) somehow
changed the braking characteristics of my car.

That, along with my soft brake pedal, got me into trouble a couple of times.

The side by side actually was quite good.

It was the slowing down part coming to the corner that was a problem for
myself and others :)

The "problem" - the way I see it (biased ofcourse...) - is that he first
*started* to race and then suddenly - stopped.

Anyway - I'll take the blame. Once again - sorry, Don.

That was a lot of fun.

For the truth to be known, while we were banging around in the pits, the
game ended before I could save a replay of the game. Otherwise, I would be
posting some of the 'other' divers faults.
:)
Probally a good thing that we were clowning around.
