If you knew about the binary group then why did u send em here to
R.A.S.????

I'm still retrieving posts while i'm writing this very angry
response to you......

binary groups are for binaries.......

I'm in the UK and don't appreciate paying by the minute for your
behaviour
it wouldn't be so bad if you had been ignorant of binary
newsgroups but you obviously aren't.

Jeez!!!

Look mate,

I SENT them to the binary group a couple of days ago.

Checked replies (from Rafe M)

Not everyone can get binary group, bloke from other side of the planet who
said he'd love to see them tried to go through Remarq to see them...some no
show.

After exchanged messages, posted them here for bloke from other side of the
planet.

Figured that people would cut me some slack seeing as non-uk simmers would
like to see and read whole article.

You should of passed on by.

Re: UK phone charges.

I live in UK, so I know EXACTLY how much it ***ing costs.

Download one then stop....go read something else.

Maybe I shouldn't have bothered....just trying to add to GP3 debate.

Thats no excuse to post them in a non-binary group, put them on a website
and put the link here. we dont get a choice of what to download, we do it
all in one go so we can disconnect.

GP3 Interview - 1

by Barton Brow » Tue, 22 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Sorry, "Ian", old shoe, but you know perfectly well why binaries are NOT
to be posted to non-binary NGs.  It's not a matter of "don't like it,
don't open it" -- it's STILL a massive drain on the storage resources of
the Web's many news servers, by whose good graces and at whose
sufferance these newsgroups are allowed to exist. Many servers have shut
down unpoliced non-binary groups that get filled with huge files like
yours, and it could happen to THIS group too. Besides that, many people
get NG message downloads en masse, and seven of your turdbombs makes a
HUGE difference in connect time.  If a "bloke from other side of planet"
wanted to see them, you could have emailed them to him privately as
attachments, or posted them to one of the 27 gazillion free image
posting sites all over the Web, and simply provided a link in one
message. But you were too ***ing lazy to do that, weren't you?

BTW, hiding behind your lame-dick "anonymous" email identity doesn't do
much good when the full headers of your SEVEN 400+K binaries clearly
reveal the message path. I've already complained to your ISP, and will
continue to do so. Netcop? Yeah -- I am...ask in
rec.autos.sport.f1.moderated what can happen to an unmoderated NG when
its members don't adequately police themselves -- and then go over to
rec.autos.sport.f1 (the unmoderated one) to see flamers and binary
bombers doing their best to drive THAT group off every news server on
the planet.

MAYBE you shouldn't have bothered? ***y well right you shouldn't have
bothered. Act like an *** or get stuffed...

Have you ever lived in the UK MrV?  Or some other country where you have to
pay for ALL phone calls, even local calls, by the minute?  Ever wonder how
big phone bills can become?  Having to _pay_ because someone was
inconsiderate enough to upload binaries to a non-binary newsgroup or to send
a huge email attachment is a pain in the ass.  Walk a mile in someone elses
shoes and all that ...

Too ***ing lazy to go to the trouble of scanning the artice, editing
it and posting it to a ng simply to allow other people to read
articles they have no access to.

Oh Mr policeman, do you really think that the email address is an
attempt at being anonymous? Please...

You obviously don't get it that the posting was a simple well meaning
gesture to help others out. I agree that the pics were way too big for
the internet, and sympathise that you have to pay by the minute. But
to go and complain to his ISP for an honest oversight? He posted about
opinions on posting the articles here, and noone responded bar me. Our
thoughts were that many can't get the binary group, and so this would
allow the posts to reach those who are interested. Given the size of
the files and reaction, probably not a good idea. We all learn by our
mistakes...Unless you are perfect?

The bottom line is that the binaries group was tried, and only two
posts appeared to get through. This repost appeared in RAS at Remarq,
but not in absa. The only reason I ended up getting the article was
because it was posted here. I am sure there are plenty of others who
were quite happy to be able to get the article. Before you go jumping
the gun and*** everyone in sight, try being more open about
peoples reasons.

GP3 Interview - 1

by Ian » Wed, 23 Feb 2000 04:00:00

To R.A.S.

I would like to make an apology to all who read this group about yesterdays
posts.

The posts were well meant with no malice or hurt intended, simply to allow
others to see the GP3 article published here in the UK.

We originally posted it to the simulator binary group as advised, but noted
from replies that some people don't have access to this forum.

Hence, my  re-post here.

With hindsight, posting here was a mistake - an honest mistake.

Something I deeply regret.

In relation to issues of protocol, bandwidth, posting via e-mail and "go
there" links, I plead the ignorance of a new Newsgroup/Internet reader who
wished only to participate in this group as myself and my family are
enthusiastic about racing simulators and this group has helped in solving
one or two problems which have arisen whilst playing games like GPL and
GP2....

To which we are grateful.

In parting, I wish to state apologies to all.

Ian.
