UK PC Gamer: Geoff Crammond GP3 Interview.

by idav » Wed, 19 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Hello all,

Just got the latest issue of PC Gamer which has a nice 4 page interview
with Mr Crammond and also some new pictures....Monza I think.

I scanned the pages and tried to upload them this morning but have
since found out that my isp here in UK is throwing a right wobbly...its
server is not posting out worldwide (I can see my posts) and says it is
storing what I've posted for later distribution....***.

So, here I am posting via Remarq to say I haven't got a ***y clue
when they'll come through.

Interesting tidbits from interview..?

Well, how about a virtual***pit a la flight sims.

or

New GP games being published every season from now on...GP4, GP5, GP6
and so on.

Can someone give me a shout when my posts do come through...?

Much appreciated.

Theres a good article in PCZone too.  Hopefully if he starts writing annual
games like the Collyer Bros seem to be doing with Championship Manager now
he'll be able to get an up-to-date F1 licence.  The games for the '98 season
so by the time it comes out it'll be two seasons out of date.  Lets hope
someone cracks the JAM equivalent files quickly so we can race the 2k
season.

Thanks fer the reply....

Like I said in me post, I've scanned and uploaded the article to my
isp's server but when checking Deja and Remarq see there's no sign of
them.

So if anyone outside the uk see's them later let me know.

The new pictures are interesting, I think they're shots of Monza - look
great even though they're still software only shots.

The one featuring the two McLarens in the kitty litter is interesting
as they are about to be passed by a Ferrari.

But the best news is regular updates to the series year on year because
of the increase in staff dedicated to the GP brand.

PC Gamer are hoping to have more (hardware accelerated) shots next
month (Feb 15th).

Just wish my jpg's got through...***y typical.

A little off topic maybe, but I couldn't resist.

In September or October in 98 PC Gamer clamed something like "We will
definately have GP3 screenshots in next isssue"

They got a bit of flak for that, but their excuse was tolerable. Something
along that someone had promised them the screenshots, but couldn't make it
anyway.

Wonder if they'll release a demo soon.  The GP games don't seem to until
after the game is released previously.

Why don't you post the pics on the alt.binaries.simulators.autos newsgroup?
That'll be the quickest way, no need to worry about your web server.

Interesting, does FIA give out the license for games based on Formula
1 to alot of companies? Seeing as EA has a license to produce F1 games
from 2000 thru 2003.

I hope they do - the software ones look pretty ropey to me. Mind you so
did GPL's software mode so I have high hopes.

I think the software mode shots look just great, I've only seen scans so I
don't know exactly whether the pixellation is caused by the scan or from the
software mode.

I read somewhere that FIA would not give out exclusive licences anymore.

Ahh, if thats true, then that is very good. Nothing like good
competition to make people make a good racing game.

I've seen it in motion at last years ECTS and its not good. However, who
in the newsgroup would dream of running it in software mode?

Notebook users.  Don't laugh, but with its good keyboard control, GP2 was
always a blast on a notebook and was much more interesting than an
in-flight movie.  3D on notebooks is still in its infancy, with the best
being the ATI Rage Mobility, although a 32Mb Rage 128 for notebooks is
around the corner.  Still, it's nothing approaching a GeForce.  Only about
30% of all notebooks come with even the ATI chipset, so software is the
only option.  And most of the notebook computer stores in Zurich still
prominently feature GP2 and MS Flight Simulator, so there would seem to be
an appreciable number of notebook computer users buying these software
titles.
