problems with 3D card in TOCA2 and SCGT

by Fnug » Mon, 24 May 1999 04:00:00

Hello everyone. I FINALLY got both TOCA2 and SCGT. I have a problem with
both, very similar problems. Whenever I choose my Monster 3d card as the
video card to use...........both games will freeze my entire system at
loadup of some kind or other. In TOCA2 if I run the game with my SiS6326 3d
AGP vid card.........the game will run okay, but if I try to use the 3d
accel card..............all goes fine until it gets to the point where it
loads the track.........it then freezes solid. With SCGT, if I choose my SiS
card.............it works fine as well, but if I choose my 3d accel
card............it will freeze in the first screen. (Where you choose the
player and the race "style") The Monster 3d card works fine with all my
other games. I have also recently updated the drivers for both cards and
have DX6.1 installed. ANYONE have any clues???      BTW, it's a P2 350mmx
with 64m ram. The AGP vid card is 8meg and the Monster, well it's still only
a 4meg.

Yes.............my SiS is on the motherboard. By your
explanation..........it does not sound very promising that I'll get a "fix"
for this problem then. I have an ATI 8meg video card (not
installed)......but I have NOOOOOOOOO clue at all how to overide the AGP
card to install a regular PCI vid card. Anyone able to help me in that
respect then?? May fix ANY 3d problems I have/will have because of the AGP
video card.           And thanks, Nathan, for that enlightening bit of info.

problems with 3D card in TOCA2 and SCGT

Hi Verne,  I will attempt to help you.

I had a pcchips m747 motherboard with a SIS 6326 8MB video built in,
and I also had TOCA2 problems.  It would run, but would always take a
long time to start a race after the track was loaded.  I had a PII 350
with 64mb ram and a VOODOO2 card.  Anyway when I did get into a race
every now and then the whole system would freeze (using 640x480 mode).
When I changed to a higher resolution (800x600) it would crash almost
straight away in a race.  I was never really happy with that
motherboard so I got another one, a supermicro P6SBA and it is
beautiful.  Toca2 runs so fast now and no loading delays, it's magic.

Anyway about changing your video card.   In the BIOS settings there
should be an option to change the PRIMARY VIDEO,  in my BIOS it could
be changed to AGP or PCI,  find this setting in your BIOS and change
it to PCI (put your PCI video card in first of course).  If you can't
find that then have a look in your motherboard manual in case there is
a jumper on the mboard you can change.

Hope that helps Verne, you can email me if you require more assistance
cos i've built a number of systems in my time.
