Make sure you start the game with "renddma.bat", rather than "n2rend.bat";
i.e., make sure you're using the DMA mode.

I am not a rendition user :(  but I have seen this before. I believe you
need to put '-dma -4' after the program name.

eg:  nasrend.exe -dma -4

Try it out and let me know if it works. Somebody please correct me if I am
wrong.

Your right, if you have more than 16 mb of ram, the game will run in 8 bit
textures. The -4 forces the game to run in 4 bit textures, which equals
better framerate. The difference in the 4 and 8 bit textures is very hard
to discern with the eye.
Btw, this only works with a patched version of Nascar2, either through the
download from their website, or other Nascar sites, or through the
installation of the GNS expansion pack.
