Hello all, In the Nas2 readme file it states that if your computer
has 24mb of ram or more, the rendition version will load 8 bit
textures(whatever that is). If less than 24mb ram, then the
rendition version will load the 4 bit textures. I have a p120 with
24 mb ram and a 3dblaster rendition card. Using renddma.exe I could
run with all graphics on, except for grandstands, drawing 6 cars in
front 2 in back. When I turned on the grandstands the gameplay
would freeze momentarily and jump all around. So I was forced to
run without the grandstands. This was frustrating since the
grandstands provide a reference point for racing and they are nice
to look at. Anyway, to make a long story short, I "downgraded" my
computer from 24 to to 16mb ram and now I can run with everything,
including the grandstands on. Go figure, downgrade to improve?. I
think the framerate increase is because the sim is now using the 4
bit textures. I guess less is more.

Why don't you just add another 8megs of RAM?  Your P120 should be
running the rendma version quite well with most of the details on.

BTW, what kind of scores are you getting with DMAtest?  If you don't
have it, go to my webpage and download it.

That's interesting. I have a p5-133, reactor, 16meg ram...I was thinking
of adding 16 more until I heard this. Anyonme else having this problem?

P.S. How does the 8bit look compared to the 4bit?

Good question Mike.  I also have a P133 w/16 MEG and am patiently
waiting for my Screamin 3D to arrive.  I'm not too anxious becuase I
find the current framerate acceptable with most everything on.  I was
gonna buy 32 MEG EDO ram with my X-mas booty and I wanted to know if I
could use my current 16 MEG on top of that, to have 48 MEG.
I know I'm gonna try anyways, but just wanted to know what my chances
would be for now.  Eric, you listening?

If you already have 2 8meg SIMMs installed, you'll be fine.  You can
install a pair of 16meg SIMMs in your open two slots to give you a
total of 48.  If you currently have 4 4meg SIMMs, you'll have to dump
two of them to make room for the new RAM since most MB's only have 4
sockets for SIMMs.

Scott,

It sounds like you had the grandstand textures set to AUTO. It's very
important when running the Rendition version that you not have any textures
set to auto, you'll take a huge hit every time the texture turns on or off.
