N2 Help!! (Rendition)

by Matt Neil » Thu, 05 Dec 1996 04:00:00

Hi, I picked up my N2 today, and after I installed it, it was a little
choppy, even with most of the graphics turned off. So I tried the
Rendition thing it it said it could not find something on the board?
(Sorry, forgot what it was that it said.) So I went back to and loaded
the uniVBE and it ran much better. I have most of the graphics turned
off execept Wall, Sky, Car texture, Skid/Paint, and smoke/dirt. Is their
anyway I can use the rendition version? I'm running a Hewlett Packard
Pavilion, intel 150MHz Pentium, 16MB RAM, 6X CD-ROM drive, Accelerated
64-bit PCI local bus video, and 1MB video RAM. Im thinking of getting a
new video card, and I was thinking off getting the Screaming 3D. Should
I? Is it worth it? Plus will it mess up all my other games like NHL '97,
Madden '97 and so forth. I don't want to get a new video card if I can't
play all my other games on it. Any help, info, suggestions and so on
would be of great help.
THANKS!!
                                                        MATT

Of course it didn't work, you don't have a Rendition based 3D
accelerator card.

Probably couldn't find the rendition chipset. hehe.

Sure. Get a board with the rendition chipset.

You will most likely be able to play them. But they will not take advantage
of the rendition's 3D unless the program is made for that purpose.

What is the most current revision of the BIOS / Firmware for the Rendition?
The one I have is the one that came with it.   Think it is 58, or
something like that.

Is anyone having problems with Kali and the Rendition?  Before I swapped
out my old S3 card, I could play Nascar through Kali with no problems. Ever
since I traded cards, upon exiting the game back to Kali, the computer
locks up, and the monitor shuts down.  Any help available out there?

You can't run the Rendition if you don't have a Rendition/Verite video
card.

Buy a Rendition board.

 I'm running a Hewlett Packard

That 1mb board is why the game is choppy.

 Im thinking of getting a

The Intergraph Reactor is cheaper (Same board)

Plus will it mess up all my other games like NHL '97,

Might need some adjustment in some games, but it is worth it to me.

Any help, info, suggestions and so on

I'm getting the same thing.  Supposedly they'll email you the latest
beta bios that supposedly fixes this, but I'm kinda leary of loading
up a beta bios.  At least it works right now, even though having to
reboot every time I exit a Kali game is a pain...

Yes, rev58 is the one it shipped with.  The latest (still in beta) is
rev73.  Your problems are exactly the types the new BIOS is attempting
to remedy.

I don't have the Rendition card (yet), but I have benn following a thread on
this...there apparently is a beta BIOS out for the (either Rendition or
Intergraph) called 73...this supposedly fixes the "monitor shutting down in
Win95 after being in a DOS-mode application"

If I'm wrong about the version number, sorry..it's close, and anyway Eric will
probably give his usual great explanation on the whole thing anyway :-)

I'm having exactly the same problem.  My monitor goes to sleep when I exit
Multi and I have to reboot.  I emailed the problem to Intergraph but haven't
heard back yet.  Their customer service has been exceptional so far and I
expect that they'll come up with a fix.

The problem does not occur with KaliDOS.  Go to www.wheretorace.com for
an excellent explanantion of how to use the DOS version of Kali.

There's a new version (V74) of the BIOS on the Intergraph site:

Got it.  Didn't help with the Kali problem.

Actually, I think it is a Kali/Reactor problem more than just a Reactor
problem.   I can run Nascar 2 from the start menu, and return to the
desktop with no problems.. If I launch N2 while Kali is running, it will
not return.  Just locks up, and turns the monitor off.

I get the same thing with 3-d blaster.

Ditto.  Loaded new Bios, still have the same problem.  I heard
somebody with a 3D blaster has the same problem, so I'm guessing it's
a rendition problem rather than an Intergraph problem.

I don't think it's Kali either, since the same thing happens with
Kahn.

Currently I use a joystick to control Nascar 2.

Is there a big difference in control going to a T2 wheel?

Please if you give me answer and explain if you can so I get a feeling
for how you describe it.

Thanks
