N2 Rendition help!

by DTrager1 » Sat, 02 Jan 1999 04:00:00

It Seems i have a new problem, was wondering if anyone could help?  I just
installed a Thriller 3D Rendition card, and now when i try to fire N2 in
software mode it either locks up right when it gets to the sound settings,
right after sound settings, or if i'm lucky enough to get into the sim (about
25% of the time), it locks on me when i exit. When it locks after the sound
settings and when exiting the sim, my monitor goes black, and i have to reboot
the computer.  If i fire it in Rendition mode everything is fine. It dosn't
matter whether i'm on or off line, same problem either way. I've tried
diffrent sound settings, and that didn't help either. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

Why would you even want to play the software mode if you have a
rendition card that works perfect?  I don't follow that logic
whatsoever.  Maybe your framerates with rendition aren't good enough?
try using the -dma -4 swithes for the rendition version
"nasrend.exe -dma -4"

Hope that might help

I too am confused.  Why use software when the 3d version runs and looks
better.  To improve your
vid card's performance, check out the pci latency settings in your bios,
(probably under pnp)
increase your pci lantency timing to 32 or higher and start seeing beeg
improvements in framerate

First thing would be to go the Hercules website and get the latest drivers
for your video card. The early drivers for the rendition cards had a
tendency to lock up in dos when using software mode. As the other guys have
said, why do you want to run software mode when you can run with hardware
acceleration. The best way to start in rendition is to use renddma.bat as
this takes advantage of DMA and should give you really great frame rates. If
you only use nasrend.exe you will get better looking graphics but you won't
see much in terms of better fps because you are not using DMA.
