N2 with rendition I GIVE UP :(

by bigd.. » Tue, 10 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I can't run rendition of n2 in win95 or dos. The sound is not detecting
correctly and usually will make the machine lock up. If I do get in the
game with rendition and try to load a track; it tells me "could not
load complete track description" I also tried using my sound.cfg from
nascar1 and that did not work either. I have a p133 16 megs ram reactor
3d card. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. I can't stand
the thought of not using rendition considering I just bought the
reactor because of n2. Icr2 rendition that came with the card works
fine so I am at a loss with the n2 problem. Thanks again for any help!

Don't give up!  Life is worth living!!!  ;)

They say the Rendition version prefers 24 meg, but should still
work in 16.  Try anything you can to save memory.  Run it only in DOS
mode, not Win95.  Try the -st option to disable the spotter sound (and
the memory it consumes -- or maybe turn off sound in SETUP).  Check
the README and troubleshooting guide for any other memory saving tips.
Otherwise, maybe you've got a bad install or some other problem.  Good
luck.

I'm having trouble but I'm not giving up yet.

Heck I'm pulling hardware, possibly reinstalling win '95 over again.

Well on '95 thingy. I got the latest version of it and it's using
FAT32, when I go to reinstall I get an error becaues of it. I go to
Fdisk and it states do I want to use the new Fat32. I'm not sure
exacltly what's gonna happen if I say yes or no. I'm I gonna lose
everything on the HD? If so then re-installing is gonna be a pain. But
I'll do it if that's what it's gonna take to get the freakin joystick
to work.

Papy? Anyone?

I've finally have a situation were I enjoy the game. I want to play it
with all my systems linked.

Thanks,
Q.B.M.

I would check amount of free XMS memory before starting Nascar 2.
Rendition version requires 16 mb. So, if you have a disk cache, shrink
it down. Maybe turing off sound might help a little also.

I had the same problem.  From WIN95 Explorer I deleted the entire Nascar2
directory and installed again from INSTALL.EXE on the CDROM with the Start-Run
sequence.  NASREND worked in Win95 and DOS after that.  I cannot, however, run
the -dma switch in DOS.  One inch of the screen fills with pixel garbage and
its time to reboot.  Good luck.

Get a copy of dmadiag (I think Eric Bush has it on his home page), and
run it before you run renddma.  If that doesn't help, try booting to
Win95 first, and then shut down to MSDOS mode.  I had the same
problem, and either of these solutions fixes it for me.

Well, i've been following a lot of these NASCAR2 help posts
and just let me say thanks for being so helpful if nobody else
has yet. It's helped me and I appreciate it as I'm sure others
here do. Thanks again.
