Rendition owners get no Windows 9x native support in NASCAR
1999 Edition. We are just getting screwed by Papyrus, plain
and simple. I am lucky enough to also have a Monster 2 12mb,
but this is getting ridiculous. Papyrus, are you
schizophrenic or what? You make GPL and with it a little ole
4mb PCI Thriller outguns the Voodoo 2. Next you make NASCAR
1999 Edition and suddenly it's the Voodoo 2 that is king
again. Come on guys, what the hell is the problem? Now as
for those folks who have loyally supported Papyrus racing
sims over the years and probably bought Rendition boards
just because of this, why are you dumping them now? I really
don't get it. I expect a native Win9x Rendition version to
be added or else Papyrus will forever go down a notch in my
mind.

So, while you own a Voodoo2 board which Papyrus now writes to...you are
trying to be the savior for all the people with Rendition boards who aren't
as "lucky" as you who also owns a V2?

You speak as if Papyrus owes you something ("We're getting screwed...
and...I expect this and that").  If they said "Go buy a Rendition board
today because our next title will support it", and then it doesn't, you
would have a valid complaint.

Voodoo board owners out-number Rendition owners by a long shot.  They
supported Rendition for a long time and you probably enjoyed their titles
before.  Now you can enjoy them with your Voodoo board.  I'm sure the people
without Voodoo boards will be able to get one to enjoy Nascar 99 just like
you.  They'll be just fine, you'll see.

Have a whine mate!!

You may notice that the number of ppl complaining about the preference for
Rendition in past Papy sims and calling for better 3dfx support is waaay
more that the other way around.  So Papy appears to have folded (thank you
papy!) and gone with the times.  I hate to think how narky you'll get if
they (gasp!) support Direct3D!!

Did you bother to try running NR1999 with Rendition under Win95? It works
perfectly- I'd love to know what you're fussing about. It even installs a
shortcut in the start menu, and worked fine for me with no tweaking at all.
We have nothing to *** about.

Ahhhhhh thanks brother! I was a little worried after I read that initial
post and thought Papy had gone mad. Now I hope that NR1999 will be released
here in Holland.

okay. i've always ignored posts that say anything about "voodoo" ***because i
am a supporter of sierra stuff and they all seem to run just fine with the ol'
rendition chip. it works for me just fine and i have no use for these other
mumbo-jumbo deals..until now, i guess. i've heard rumors about "washed out"
looking screens and ***like that.***that. rendition for me.
here is my question: i run a WIN95 system. am i able to use both a voodoo thingy
and my rendition in the same system? at the same time? if "yes", what is the
best voodoo to get. they have a "1" and a "2", right? i don't really care about
cost, so the best is just fine. if i can't run nascar99 with my rendition - i
won't buy it. they damn well better have rendition support for nascar2000. i
don't want to get into a video card holy war at all, but i am intentionally
ignorant of other options.

danke sehr,

j

Yes and Yes.

i

If you have a fast P2 (over 300mhz) get a voodoo2, anything slower a Voodoo1
will do. And I bought N1999 because it did support 3dfx so I guess we will
cancel each other out :-)

I have both.

Pii-333mhz, 128mb Ram
Rendition Thriller 8mb PCI
Creative Labs VooDoo2 12mb PCI 3dfx

--the "washed out" you hear about in 3dfx will disappear if you adjust the
Gamma Correction down to 0.9 in the 3dfx Properties Screen.  While the frame
rate drop (in GPL) is about 5fps compared to the Thriller, I have to admit that
the graphics are clearer.... minus the anti-aliaising.  I am not sure if AA is
available for 3dfx in N1999 or not.

- Regardless, it is very nice to pick and choose which game executable you want
to use when you have both cards.

According to the readme there is a environment variable for AA in the 3dfx
version. But changing this number did nothing.

Hi Andrew,

Just curious. Why do you say the PCI Thriller rather than the AGP ?
I'm aware Hercules says the Thriller AGP doesn't use the various AGP
features, but they do say it does take advantage of the faster AGP bus
speeds. This sounds like a AGP would be better. Is there some
particular reason you prefer the PCI ?

Cheers.
