No, CART is stone cold done, finished, any add-ons, or enhancements will
only come from
private 3rd party folks.
Papyrus did secure the rights for CART for 1999 and beyond, there is talk
of taking the GPL engine
and creating a CART sim from that.  However, any work on CART3(or whatever
they call it will be well after they get Nascar Racing 3 finished.  and
since the parent companies of Papyrus are in some legal finacial problems,
any project scheduled for next year may get put off indeffinately.

I wish Nascar3 would become stone dead and in its place ICR3. Attention to
a
Indycar or Champcar update is long overdue, its about time Papy/Sierra
pause from the
Nascar money making FAD and stop neglecting its IndyCar\ChampCar fans that
have been also buying the Nascar and Gpl sims with hopes for another
release
of IndyCar\Cart. Wake Up Papy !!!!!!!!!! Four Nascar releases!!!!!!!!!!

Can I ask you to elaborate on these troubles?  I hadn't heard anything on
this.  And I was hoping to get CART3 before Christmas 1999 - damn!!

Hmm, counting the exact same product that has just another name
slapped on as a seperate release?

Not really.  Each step had something added, either add-ons to the
main program (3,4), or versions for different hardware/OS (6,7), or
the "Winning" handbook (8).  BTW, I bought all but #6.  :)

I came up with about five NASCAR releases (by the same rules):
1) NASCAR Racing
2) N1 Track Pack
3) NASCAR Racing 2
4) N2 Grand National Pack
5) NASCAR Racing 1999

If was squeezing for more releases, I might include:
2b) NASCAR1 w/track pack included
(which would allow me to add above - 4b) ICR1 w/tracks & paintkit)
4b) NASCAR 50th Anniversary

but these are only the same product bundled in new boxes with no new
content if I'm not mistaken.  (Correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't
purchase them, but have purchased #1-4.  Still haven't worn out GPL
enough to have time or interest for #5. :)

    I bought all but #4 and #2b; including 4b.
4B actually fixed one VERY important thing (it allows 64 tracks in your
track directory); and I don't know what else...  That 32-track limit was
beginning to encroach those of us with tracks that are converted or
downloaded! I bought Nas50th for the BGN and sold my N2 to recoup some of
the cost.  Net: $17.
I'll be first in line for N3, too...
With all the patches I've found on the 'net lately they're ALL like new
games.  The 3DFX patch, TPCC, CTS, IROC, GT40, tracks, et al. ad nauseum...
Late Apex Racing has the most extensive N1 archive I've seen!!  Didn't know
you could do all the things they're doing there!!  (okay, the graphics are
dated, but my 7yo son LOVES driving around)

After all that raving my point was: 4B really IS as seperate a product as
the ICR versions were.

Sierra bought up Papyrus and then got swallowed themselves by Cendant.  A
company that was cooking it's books to hide massive fiscal hemoraging.
Cendant has worked a deal with an even bigger financial company but several
properties including Blizzard, Sierra etc may be for sale.  So when you have
a situation where your not sure where your companies next paycheck is
comming from, you may be kind of hesitant to commit full scale to a project
that is at best another year away.  I think the 100% rebate offer your
seeing for the newer Sierra Sports titles is an offshoot of the problems.  I
beleive they are trying to show potential buyers the big sales for it's
products and hoping they new people don't see the huge payouts that match
those sales.

Cendant sold (or will announce, not sure) their software division about
1month and a half ago to a French company named Havas.  I have no idea of
what will be affected at Sierra, but it's still the people at the top of the
pyramid that have changed. It can affect every branch of it down under.
Let's hope to the better.

Somehow we come back to probably the OLDEST Papyrus thread.. that goes on
for years and years... ;-)    . What is the future ? What about the rumors
of the big heads at Papy quitting and forming a new racing company ? What
are the future products after Nascar Racing 3 (especially this question, I
mean if the targeted date is still Q2 of 99, what will happen after?) What's
going on with NR3 ? Any news on a future CART title or a sequel/expansion
pack to GPL ? What will happen with the NROS and N3 ? Will Sierra and Papy
let TEN buy a license ?

So many question, not enough time ;)

I mean, we would like to be informed just "-"  <--- this.  Just a tiny
little info. Nothing more.  I hate to rely to unofficial and "secret" news
and tidbits.  A little bit of Public relations wouldn't hurt.  Im sure a
*** website or *** magazine would be VERY pleased to buy an article.

We also need to remember that the Papyrus Design group (or is it Sierra) has
a CART license until the year 2001, so let's not start to panic... 2001

I could have fun spreading false rumors, so that somehow they would need to
reply with the official answers (joke ;-D ).

Papyrus/Sierra's parent company, Cendant, was in some financial
trouble earlier this year due to some type of fraud by upper-level
management.  I know that Sierra was on the market to be sold, and I do
believe that they were bought, but don't know by who.  During this
process, finances at the company were very tight, forcing Papyrus to
reorganize and lay off quite a few employees.  Other key employees
bailed out before the ship sank.  As a result, a lot of the art work
and other jobs are being outsourced to other companies, including one
company in Russia.

...and why not?  The gentleman mentioned 4-NASCAR releases...You and I
know there are only two sims in question: N1 and N2.  As for CR titles,
there are three: I500, ICR and ICR2.  With the release of GPL, the open
wheel products outnumber the fender-bender ones by 2-to-1.

Cheers!

3) Nascar Racing Track Pack
4) Nascar Racing 2
5) BGN Track Pack
6) Nascar Racing - 3Dfx
7) Nascar Racing 50y Edition
8) Nascar 99

... not counting Rendition version as a separate product ...

It's time for a ChampCar release, IMO!

If you counted the Matrox edition as a seperate product, why not the
Rendition?  Actually the Matrox, 3Dfx and Rendition versions are more
"patches" than "releases."  They never tried to get any EXTRA money for them
(the 3Dfx patch is GREAT to me!), so IMO they don't qualify as releases.
