CART Racing (ICR2): Win95 or DOS? Rendition v2x00?

by Dave Henri » Thu, 19 Mar 1998 04:00:00

the 3d Rendition version of CART/ICR2 is not compatible out of the box
with the 2nd generation Rendition chipsets.  So the Thriller etc all have
the same problem as the Stealth II.  all the older boards work just fine
with ICR2.  But there is a work around to get the V2k boards working with
ICR2.  A pain in the but tho...Check out Bjorn's website for details.

CART Racing (ICR2): Win95 or DOS? Rendition v2x00?

Hi there,

What is the performance hit when running ICR2 Win95 version compared to
the DOS version? I'm now running the Win95 version as I can't get any
sound in DOS (haven't tried to fix it yet) so I was wondering if its
worth trying to get the DOS version up and running?

Also, I am curious about Rendition boards and CART Racing compatibility.
Are the v2100 and v2200 boards compatible with this sim? I have heard
read that there are some problems with the Stealth II - so what is the
story with the Hercules Thriller 3D or Jazz Outlaw 3D, (esp. the 8MB AGP
version)? Can anyone recommend any of these boards?

Cheers,
Tomo.

The patch to get ICR2 working with a v2x00 board is more than a pain in the
butt, it only works sometimes.  If you have the re-titled "Cart" product,
it doesn't work at all.  if you get the game to run at all, it looks great,
but the mirrors are all filled with junk which bothers some not at all, but
some a lot. It would be a lot better if the companies with an interest in
keeping rendition alive and well got together and fixed some of these very
popular games.  Nascar2 works fine with my Stealth II right out of the box
however, and it produces fantastic detail and framerates even on an old
P133. It also plays Quake 2 and Forsaken with great framerates on the same
old machine. For a low powered machine, the board can't be beat for the
bucks.

The new CART version can be made to work with the V2x00 boards.  but it is
not 100%  that I know of.  Currently I am temporaliy running ICR2 in 2d til I
get more time to fiddle with the 3d.
