N2 Rendition joystick config loss

by n2ka.. » Sat, 08 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Hi if anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it.  Especially,
Jim Sokoloff or Erick Busch.  I just installed my Intergraph 3d board.
It is great.  But, here is my problem.  Every time I run "renddma.bat"
I loose my joystick configuration.  Sometimes the game doesn't even
recongnize my joystick.  I called Intergraph and the tech rep. there
said I might try removing some of the numbers in the renddma. bat
file.  (huh?).  Ok, so I edited some of the numbers out but still no
consistant results.  Win95 reports DMA is using 1,2,3, and 4. Is there
some kind of conflict here?  Can someone help?

Thanks in advance

AFAIK, this happens to just about everyone at one time or another.  I'd
say 2 out of 3 times I start N2 it can't detect my controller.  Usually
it will re-appear if I quit and start N2 again.

snip

I can't even get the joystick to respond now at all with my current
system and sound/game card in Nascar2 under W95 no matter what I have
tried. I have tried with a regular Gravis anolog joystick, a T2, and
gamepad. I have loaded the regular N2.bat and the renddma.bat many
times while going back to the ControlPanel/Joystick and recal in
between. I always get the -1 reading in calibration with no needle
movement.

ICR2 works fine under w95. Calibrates everytime. NHL97 works fine
under w95, calibration (through control panel). N2 will only work
through DOS with my current system. Funny thing was, with my previous
system and different sound/game card, I did have success, however, not
until the second or third time I would load N2 under W95, but it did
eventually calibrate.

My System: P166, 32meg EDO, Intergraph Reactor, Addonics Soundvision
500 (soundcard).

I would like to get this working with my T2 in w95 so I can use my
current modem which is windows95 only. Can anyone from Sierra/Papy
give a hint if there is a "fix" in the works for this frustrating
problem? I hate to waste money on a dedicated gamecard since all my
other programs work fine with a stick or T2 except N2 under w95 but if
this is the solution, I will do so.

I wrote to Sierra about the exact same problem and you know what one
idiot from their tech support said? - "If you read the side of the box it
says MS-DOS game NOT Win95 game so you are out of luck if it doesn't

Well, If this is indeed true then I am very quickly losing my faith in
Sierra. Pardon my anger but why in the hell did they package N2 with
the TEN online service (which is w95 only) and also clearly stated
that all plans are for NRO to be run through w95? Not that I plan on
using TEN anyhow but I guess I better master my keyboard skills at
driving just in case I change my mind. <<<<NOT

Please, Sierra/Papy, just acknowledge that there is a "bug" with the
joystick calibration under w95 and that something is being worked on
to fix it. This is all I want to here.
