Logitech WingMan Formula with Windows 2000?

by Richard Walke » Mon, 20 Mar 2000 04:00:00

Hi all,

I've got a Logitech WingMan Forumla steering wheel/pedal setup (plugged
into the analogue controller port of my SB Live!) and I'm not too sure
how to get it working with Windows 2000.

I know I can't get the 'profiler' for Windows 2000/NT, but that doesn't
bother me.

I tried adding a '2-axis, 4-button' joystick (Panel->Controllers) and this
worked to an extent: four (or the six) buttons worked, but, the brake and
throttle were combined (I need split-axis) and the accuracy was terrible.

Logitech's web site is no help, neither is wingmanteam.com

There must be someone with this wheel and Win2k!!!

What *exact* kind of controller should I be adding in Control Panel?

The current operating system for games (OK Simulations if you like) is
Windows '98. Win 2000 will not become the 'one' operating system that MS
originally suggested. Gamers will have to use '98 for the time being and
Windows 'Millennium' in the not too distant future.

So why bother with Win 2000?

Andi.

A lot of people say this, but apart from my Guillemot wheel not working in
W2K, I have had no problems with 95% of *** aspects in W2K. The Guillemot
thing will be sorted out with new drivers they are going to release 'soon'.

I use the LWFF in W2K on USB, no problems at all. Don't know about a serial
connection though, maybe someone else has tried that and can help you.

Do you get FF effects OK in W2K?

Ta, but I think the main difference here is that the USB wheels have their
own Logitech-provided drivers.  Or are you using the driver on the Windows
2000 CD?

According to the Windows 2000 'troubleshooter', because my wheel is
connected to a 'gameport', I could be suffering from the 'FDMA audio bug'.
What is this, anyone?

After much meddling, and emails to Logitech, the wheel now works properly,
except that I can't get split-axis support.  :-(

Has anyone out there got split-axis working with my wheel/OS, or do you
think I'll have to wait until Logitech develop their drivers further?

Richard,
My question still stands, 'do you get FF effects with the LWFF in W2K'?
Thanks,
Iain

It's not a force feedback wheel!!!  Didn't my first post make that clear?

My wheel is the plain-old black game port one.

The latest news is that Logitech reckon the released driver (on W2k CD)
doesn't support split-axis (it does for USB, but not game port).  Their
current in-house version does.  I guess I have to wait.  :-(

Oh, and does anyone know why Formula One Grand Prix (v1, DOS!) doesn't
recognise the wheel?  I suppose it's trying to peek/poke memory directly,
and the Windows 2000 'DOS box' support isn't that good...  Shame, I really
fancy a go on F1GP!

My LWFF works great in GPL but no FF.

Does it have a USB connector?  I have the Wingman FF wheel with USB and it
works fine in Win2K.  The first time I turned it on, Win2K recognized it and
installed the drivers.  Didn't even ask for a CD.

Actually the FF effects don't seem to be working.  The only racing game I
can get to work in Win2000 with my V3 card though is Sports Car GT.  If you
know of any other game I can try that offers FF, I will try it.
