lukewarm reception, I was thinking that maybe Papy could look at a rally sim
based on the GPL engine. Apparently it's not used in N3 because of the
number of cars and the horsepower (CPU) required to run it, well this isn't
a problem with a rally sim (same as one GPL car hotlapping). The physics
engine is certainly up to the task - everyone knows how easy it is to get
terminal understeer (same as a front-wheel drive rally car ) or terminal
oversteer (rear-wheel drive). The road surface simulation is there, the
grass and gravel in GPL feel completely different to the tarmac and the
scenery shouldn't pose any great effort - use the trees from Spa or Rouen.
etc
The only problem I can see is the cultural one - a U.S. company probably
can't see the benefit in a rally game. Perhaps I they were made aware of the
good sales (I believe) of Colin McRae, it might become more interesting to
them.
So what do we get - a world beating rally sim with the driveability and
realism of GPL at a cost (to Papy) of a few new tracks (using existing
scenery elements) and a bunch of new car setups. All this with a good sales
outlook! Sounds like a win, win situation
