HELP: GPL and Kernel32 error...

by Simon Goodwi » Mon, 02 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hey all - I think this may be a bit obscure, but no harm in asking. The
old versions of the GPL demo worked fine, but since version 0.0.0.5 (and
newer), the program no longer functions on my system (K6-200 [O/C'ed to
225 w/75 mHz bus speed], Monster I, etc. pretty standard stuff).
Everything appears normal until I leave the Car Class selection screen -
it throws me back to Windows and reports that GPL has caused a page
fault error in the 'kernel32.dll'.

Obviously this does not bode well for my purchasing the final product.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated (I have all the latest drivers,
etc, etc).

Thanks,
Simon Goodwin

I had similar problems with the full program on my previous machine,
which was exactly the same as yours (K6-200 [O/C'ed to 225 w/75 mHz
bus speed], Monster I). When I set the computer to 66 MHz bus speed,
it worked however. Win95 usually had no problems at 75/225 MHz, but
GPL would crash sooner or later, so I suspect it had something to do
with the monster card disliking the 37.5 MHz PCI bus. I upgraded to a
super 7 board since then and run at 100 MHz board speed and 33 MHz PCI
speed. There have been no problems since then. Try setting the board
to 66 MHz or underclocking the Monster and see if it helps.
