CMR2 Causes error in kernel32.dll

by Chris Bradle » Sun, 31 Dec 2000 04:29:20

Any ideas please!!
My son has just bought CMR2 for the PC and we are having problems getting it
to work.
After installing, when we select "Play", a Windows error appears saying
"CMR2 has caused an error in kernel32.dll"

I have tried the following to remedy it:
1. A totally clean install of windows ME (ie onto a newly formatted hard
drive)
2. Different (latest) video drivers (ie v 635)
3. Reducing the hardware acceleration setting
4. Swapping memory sticks
5. Altering screen resolution & colour settings\
6. Trying DirectX 7a, 7.1 and 8
7. All of the above on Windows 98 too!
The problem is ALWAYS repeatable - we have NEVER had CMR2 start up
successfully.

The system is:
ABIT BX2 motherboard
Celeron 400
128 Mb PC100 RAM
Hercules Prophet 3d 2 MX (ie Geforce 2 MX) with 32Mb
HP 7500 CD
Diamond Sonic Impact S90 sound card
DirectX 7
OS = Windows ME

I have Codemasters TOCA2, Colin McRAe Rally and CMR2 Demo installed on the
same PC all working fine.

Hi Chris!

Merry Christmas & all that...

Seems there are some issues with CMR2 and Geforce2 cards.

Check out:

http://www.reactorcritical.com/
or
http://www.guru3d.com/download/nvidiaunofficialreferencedrivers.htm

for the latest beta drivers

Seems the "unofficial" drivers v6.49 solves lots of problems with CMR2

Also check out http://forums.simracingnews.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi for
stuff on CMR2 and lots of other sims - there is a thread "Geforce2 owners
please read " on page 2.

For general Geforce info http://www.geforcefaq.com/ may be useful

Sounds like you are having a frustrating time - here's hoping this solves it
:-)

Tony

CMR2 Causes error in kernel32.dll

If you still have the demo of CMr2 install. Remove it. I couldn't install my
game until I had done that.

Damm video card drivers, I never know when to upgrade or stay with what
works.

I have not changed drivers for a couple of months now and running GTS2  on
6.34's.

upgrade from Diamond Sonic S90).

I currently have installed the following games : GPL,Toca2,MBTR,Insane,CMR2
MM2 and they all run fine, touch wood.

Another thing you may wish to check is the Microsoft FAQ ..there's stacks
about the error message you have.

Been down that road before.

CMR2 Causes error in kernel32.dll

I've got an official reply from Codemasters on this.  Since my CD-Rom
is an HP7550i CDRW they say that the firmware is not supported by CMR2
and its failing when reading the copy protection on the CD.
Any ideas on a way forward anyone?

Make a full install and get a no CD crack. ( www.gamecopyworld.com).
Then you dont need the CD when playing.

if the no-cd route doesn't work, buy a second CHEAP cdrom, you can have
them for less than $50 bucks.
