Rumors and hopes for the setting of the next GPL ran rampant
some time ago. I say, Papy can do any F1 season they like as
long as the Ring is included.<br>
So what was the last year the Ring hosted an F1 GP?

1976 was the last year F1 cars raced on the Nordschleife.

September 1998 (on the new 4.5km GP track).

The last time the Nordschleife was used for a F1 GP was August 1 1976.

OK, fill me in again guys, I haven't been on this earth for as long as most of
you, so.... what happened to Niki Lauda at the Nburgring?  I recognize the
name, but that's all....

Niki Lauda's Ferrari crashed on lap two of the race.
It was on a drying track and his car nudged to the right in a left hand
corner (for GPL players: its the first fast left-hander after the ex-muhle
sign). The Ferrari was thrown back on the track, burning, and Niki's helmet
was thrown off. Another car drove into the wreckage when it finally halted,
and it was pushed a 100m further towards the next corner. Then all cars
stopped and Niki was pulled out of the burning car by Arturo Merzario, who
received a medal (Arturo never concealed he strongly disliked Lauda, but he
saved him anyway).
There is amateur footage of the whole crash, and it showns Niki Lauda lying
consious on the stretcher, looking at the flesh*** down from his burnt
hands.
Because he had inhaled hot air, he was between life and death for 7 days. 6
weeks later however, he was 5th in the Italian GP.

He lost control of his Ferrari in Bergwerk, hit a steep banking and
went through a catch fence. He lost his helmet and the car caught
fire. The Ferrari was then rammed and pushed along the track by
another car.

For days the doctors were certain he wasn't going to make it, but by
some mistake he pulled through in just a month or so.

The actual Grand Prix is different from the old (green hell), so Michael. S. is
driving somewhere else and only a very small part is identical (finish line)

If you are around you can pay some bucks (actually its DM and its gonna be
Euro soon) and drive the old track  with your whatever car.

I only did it once with a Porsche 944 and it was fun. If you are on the black
brake marks and you havent been braking before its too late.

I cant play GPL right now waiting for a path to suit my TNT

If I remember correctly, there wasn't any catch fence.

Hey, I wasn't born back then either, but here's what happened:
He was coming to a fast righthander and lost control of the car in the
middle of the corner. He hit the wall hard and his car hit flames.
He was trapped in the car for about 15 seconds while it was burning and
one other car also hit his car. He barely survived the accident and his
face was quite deformed for a few years (it still is visible).

I heard somewhere that his hands were so badly burned that doctors
thought he wouldn't be able to use them.
Niki had them set closed -so he could grip a steering wheel.

That's as hard-core as they come!
