I was in 4th when, on lap 8, I crested Galgenkopf and found you stranded in
the middle of the road. I managed to get to the brake, but I still hit you
pretty hard an in the "latency tanle" I overturned.
Now if there's any fear I have in a GP distance event, it's this type of
accident, where one crosses a blind crest (or clear a blind apex) and find
an obstruction in one's path. Terribly unfortunate and, while, from my point
of view I had no indication you were in trouble in the turn and therefore
could do little more to avoid the accident than I did, I sincerely apologise
for dealing a death blow to your car. Probably very unwise to push your
button so soon after the incident as well, but I couldn't resist... sorry
bud. ;-))
Anyhow, even if that race had delivered a good result, that would have been
down to luck rather than to any good driving I did, especially in the early
part. I made two mistakes before this race even started. Number one was I
skipped lunch as I didn't feel particularly hungry after last night's
festivities and that started biting me on the ass about 2 or 3 laps in and
the second was I had a preconception about the start and first turn, which
dropped me to last place to begin with.
After numerous mistakes, which saw me lucky not to destroy the car nor bend
it too much, I started to twig what was going on on about lap 6. I really
started to make some inroads on John after that, but faith stepped in to end
the race for both of us. That's the way it goes sometimes.
