And one of the finishers includes Eldred himself, as usual I might add
:)
Congrats all, it was a great race. I was leading with a comfortable 35
second lead, but concentrating became harder and harder.. on lap 11 I
made a silly mistake which costed me a wheel :(
Really disappointed with that, I really wanted to finish this one..
but I only can blame myself :(

Eldred,

I responded to Andre's post awhile back about passwording this race and
I'm glad you didn't. Although I wanted very much to be part of this
race, my efforts in practice made it clear to me that I do not belong on
this track when it does not have "shift R" available.(As a courtesy to
others!) I still want more than anything to do one of your GP's, so I
hope you will continue to keep them on a first come basis.

Thanks,

Gary Stephenson

And thank you to you and Jan(and whoever else was watching) for not clogging
the screen with chat during the race.  I was a bit worried about that when you
both went out...  I thought you might comiserate with each other...<g>

When/if I ever host Monaco, that will be passworded.  I also have concerns
about people who join, but don't realize it's a GP race.  We had a guy
yesterday who called us "nuts" for running a full race.  He seemed surprised
that anyone would even TRY it.  That had at least a couple of us nervous about
his ability.  I had "!eject #15" all typed in and ready to execute, but he said
he'd try...<g>  He crashed out on lap 2, so maybe I should have kicked him as
soon as he made the comment...

Hat's off to everyone involved -  just finishing is quite an achivement by
itself IMO.

I assume it's common knowledge it's possible to chat on a 1-on-1 basis in
GPL?

Similar to the "whisper" function in VROC if one preceeds his comment by
"/#xx", without the quotes and where xx is car number of the person the
message is intended for (no leading zeros for single digit numbers), the
message can only be seen by the driver of that particular car. Obviously,
one should double check the person in question has indeed retired. The car
number can be found on the entry list page (click dog ear at Event Info
screen). A received "whispered" comment will be preceded by "->" in the chat
window.

When Andre lost it I informed as to what went wrong as he was not in my
replay at the time. As he answered "in the clear" (by mistake I assume), I
didn't initiate chat again before the end of the race. Personally I find
chat during live sessions most distracting so, as a rule, I try to not
subject others to it either.

In case anyone's interested/cares I messed this one up royally as well and
am still kicking myself for rushing my recovery, overrevving my engine in
the process (which lead to my eventual demise). Apologies to my fellow
racers for making Adenauer Forst a bit more of a chicane than it already is
on lap1. My replay doesn't reach, but I think/hope things just about went ok
and I didn't really involve anyone in my off(s). If not, feel free to send
E-mail and yell at me. ;-)

Hmm.. another person also crashed after 2 laps. I talked to him
afterwards what happened, and he said he crashed his car on purpose
because he didn't intend to drive more than 2 laps.
I still think we should password the races to make sure only serious
people join.

Yeah sorry about that, I said one sentence to Jan but I forgot to
whisper :-/ Needed to dig up the GPL manual to look up the whisper
command after that :)

WTF, this guy has never heard of just pulling over and pressing Esc?!? What
an idiot!

Egots.....

<licking wounds>

I'd better get some seat time in If I'm not the next passenger in James
Bond's Aston Martin. 2 DNF's on lap 1 in GP's within 3 days here. My 3 month
absence seems to have made me wheel rusty.....

Serious damage to my pride here.

He -said- he crashed on purpose, but I seriously doubt that to be
honest :)
Anyway, the point I tried to make was that again spots were filled by
people who did not intend to finish the race.

Eh, I crashed after 2 laps, but I did not talk to Andre after the
race.

Felt really bad about it after Eldred moved the race on my request.
(Thanks, Eldred) Stupid mistake as usual.

Yes, I know that.  But in practice, it rarely seems to be used... :(
I'm sure you and Andre would have had a couple of comments about my shoddy
driving...especially when I spun in the 'hedge' section on the next to last
lap...<g>
