Nascar pit stop and AI strengh settings

by GlenRKen » Tue, 02 Jan 1996 04:00:00

In Nascar Racing, early on, it became quite tiresome to exit the track
slection screen to reset the opponet strenght setting every time I
wanted to switch tracks. I found a fix that allows me to leave game
strengh at 100% and still have individual settings for each track. I do
this by remming and changing the RELS value in each track.txt file (each
track has one, named the same as the track directory). The RELS value is
aparently the design strengh of the track, with 100 meaning 100% of
design.

To adjust to your strengh, rem the default value with a semicolon ( ;)
then enter a new RELS line and dial the RELS value down or up to suit
current setup for that track. You rem the origional value to retain the
default setting for your current version of Nascar (you gotta have
goals!).

  Such as with Darlingt.txt :

;RELS  99
RELS  100

This setting will raise AI strengh to appx. 101-102% default game
strengh.

Also, you may adjust the pit window for the AI cars with the SPDWY line
in the same file. If your tires are dead after 35 laps, and you want the
other cars to pit with you, rem and change the SPDWY line to your liking.

  Such as with Darlingt.txt

;SPDWY 0 34 46
SPDWY 0 30 36

This setting will loosly force the AI cars to pit on or after lap 30 up
to and on 36. I tried to force ALL of the cars in on the same lap, but
aparently a gap of a number of laps and/or miles is required for the game.

Also, you may get lotsa pit pratice by setting the window to a low
number such as SPDWY 0 10 10. Again, loose enforcement, but you can follow
most everybody in every 10, 15 laps.

  Also, in Taladega.txt, changing SPDWY 1 42 45 to SPDWY 0 42 45 removes
the restrictor plate employed on this track, allowing greater speed.
Don't forget to bump up the RELS value to match, to such as RELS 130.

Sorry for this long-winded tip, but we all like to share (Now, about
car setups ..........).
