I am thinking of buying a new graphic card. What is the quality like with
NVidia card with the reg change compared with the Voodoo? Would TNT2 be
enough for 36fps in GPL on a C300A or a V3-2000 would be better?

gpl only works with 3dfx, so tnt2 is no option

Not true. My nVidia RIVA TNT1 card works perfectly well with GPL using the
OpenGL (admittedly beta - but very stable) drivers.

But still for GPL a V3 is better as a TNT2... (for other games it might be
different..

Wrong. There is an OpenGL patch. I use this patch to be able to play GPL
using my Geforce. Geforce + OpenGL patch outperforms my 2 Voodoo 2 in SLI
modus.

The only advantage I can see using Voodoo2 SLI is that the mirrors look
better. But FPS is higher with the Geforce + OpenGL patch.

Not true,
I've just got a new pc which came with an Nvidia TNT2 and with the OpenGL
patch and registry fix it works fine. 36fps most everywhere except the
start, all forward details on.

The V3 is the better card for GPL due to the glide support, other cards have
to use an OpenGL patch which is'nt as well optimised.

I'm running the Annilhilator Pro and the BETA2 OpenGL patch and the game locks
my computer whenever I click the green light to enter a race.  What combination
of drivers and patches are you using to get it to work - I really want to play
GPL but I'm not taking my GEFORCE card out to do it.

The needs of the many outweight the needs of the few (or the one).

Hi!
I've just chosen my card and the card I had was a CL TNT which I liked
alot, but in GPL the mirrorproblem is not good when racing online.
I have just tried a CL TNT2 Ultra and a CL Geforce DDR and I was pretty
impressed by the performance of the Ultra, but I chose the Geforce as it was
just powerful enough for 1024x768 with all graphics on and 19 AI cars in GPL
with my C300A OC to 504Mhz. But the prize is another story the Geforce was
terrible expensive, but If your looking for higher resolutions in GPL which
I think is better for the eyes then wait for the Voodoo 5 card which are
just around the corner.

Regards,
Hans-Otto

It's not enough to think twice these days when choosing a card...better
think 5 or 6 times :-). Maybe you should wait for the

I agree 100%. Question for Nvidia guys, What resolution are you using?

 My Voodoo3 3000 and Athlon 800 performs 36 fps with 1280 x 1024, even
at the tail of 19 AIs. Of course, TNT2 or GeForce are well cards, but not
for auto simmers. WSC is making with Glide support. Though, only one
exception may become GP3, no announcement about 3D API.

What kind of rig do you have?  With all of the tweaks here that I have seen, I
can't get it past 30.XX fps (OpenGL, no detail, 640x480, 19 cars, no lighting,
cars in mirrors only).  I must be missing something.   Any help would be
appreciated.

P3 500, 128MB
Viper 770 (156, 131)
3.53 drivers (3.68 seemed to run slower for me)
SB Live Value
Windows95

With my old Celeron 266 and a Stealth II I could get 5 cars with all details at
36fps.  I'm wondering if I put in the Stealth II card, what kind of numbers I
would pull.  Has anybody tried?

Thanks,
Keith Kramer

you must have something wrong somewhere, I,ve got a dell p3-450 dell tnt2 std,
128 meg ram.
Can run at 1600x1200 training mode 36fps
1152x864 online 36fps
most details on, slider halfway, car and track in mirrors

I've got a TNT2

which are cars only (no big deal as you can still ID the car and
driver). It seems to run OK with 1280x1024 too at about 30fps.

Sunday night, I unstalled GPL, defragged the drive and swap file and reinstalled.
I then changed the MipFiltering value from 4 to 1, which was the key to obtaining
36 fps.

I now get a jerky 36 fps around the track in resolutions from 640x480 to 1024x768.

I will ponder the issue further to see if what other changes might be made.

GPL 1.2
Nvidida detonator 3.68 reference driver

I also experieced sudden lockups for a while. After changing the speed of
the AGP port in BIOS, from 2/3 of the system bus, to 1/1, the lockup seems
to have vanished. Strange, but true.
