If you enjoy Rally racing (including Hill Climb and Ice/Snow racing) then you
will love this game.  The graphics are outstanding and the physics are above
average for a console racer.  The handling and gameplay are exceptional if you
happen to have the MC2 wheel from MadCatz.

One of the coolest features if having your spotter calling out the upcoming
turns and potential hazards.  It is so accurate that if you could get the timing
down you could almost drive with your eyes shut.

That's not special, but 'It is so accurate that if you could get the
timing down you could almost drive with your eyes shut.' is..

No PC rally game got that right so far.

It's no Rally Trophy ! Or Rally Championship, for that matter. But it's a bit better than
PS2's WRC, which was gorgeous, but SLOW !
I thought the navigator was terrible ! He gets so far in front or behind in his corner
calling, depending on how well, or badly you are driving. It's nearly unplayable with a
normal controller(very twitchy), and the graphics are "decent" for a modern console. X-Box
has not left me too impressed so far with the games I've seen.. Halo, Rallisport and
Project Gotham(a bit of a mess). And, Amped, which is boredom defined !
Nothing outstanding going on here.

I agree.  One of the best racers I've ever played.

Do you actually own it Ted?  Or just played it at EB for 10 minutes?  It
took me about an hour to get adjusted to the controls....after that the
control feels *perfect*.  I thought it was twitchy at first too, but now it
is great.

To each their own I guess, but Halo is still arguably the best FPS in existance
(so far) and Amped is easily the best snowboard SIM out there.  There aren't too
many games on the Xbox that haven't impressed me and only a few (like ObiWan)
have really disappointed me.  As for RalliSport...

My navigator was dead on listing the next 2-3 "terrain features" in advance.
The rate of his narration also seemed dependent on my current speed so if I was
going faster he would give me more info.  It was also amazingly ACCURATE info
like "don't cut the turn - loose gravel on the inside" or "medium left - caution
- rocks on the outside" or my favorite "caution - exposure" which has kept me
from plummeting off the side of a mountain on more than one occasion.

The verbal instructions are also accompanied by icons that drop down from the
top but I almost tune these out now and concentrate on mainting "the line".  I
also like the fact that you score for each round is also affected by your car
damage - a good incentive for driving clean!

Control is dead on with either the standard controller or the MC2 wheel.  I had
to play around with the calibration to get the wheel to perform as tight as the
controller but in the end it was worth it.  I get much more accurate gas and
braking with the full range of the pedals vs. the left/right triggers on a
gamepad.

No real rally driver has got that either, I assume. I doubt that it will add
to the realism.

I don't own them , but I was playing them for about 5 hours on Friday night. Why, if they
are so poor, were you playing for 5 hours I hear you ask ? Well, my mate was beside
himself with joy at his new possession, so it would have been rude not to .
Rallisport gives a nice sensation of speed, but the controller just doesn't cut it.
Compare the control on something like GT3 and you can see how wrong it is.

Halo has some great weapons effects, but the levels we were playing were very bland, to
say the least. OT question here. Why are the aliens so ***y stupid that they make their
floors out of glass ?  It's fun shooting the panels and watching them drop through though.
But, overall, the game is no match for the greatest console FPS ever, and that was
Goldeneye.

Firstly Halo is not a proper FPS, it's a combination of first and third
person perspectives, it should be compared more to Tomb Raider than the
Unreal or Quake series of games. After playing it for a few hours I was
bored rigid, same with amped, it looks good, but the control isn't exactly
intutative, they could certainly learn something from Neversoft who did the
Tony Hawks series... and Matt Hoffman I think.

So far I have yet to be impressed with any game I've played on the Xbox, but
I also felt the same with the PS2, give it 6-12 months and maybe we'll start
seeing something decent. The Xbox controller is just dreadfull, far inferior
to the PS2 ones... perhaps when the release the slightly smaller jap
versions over here I'll be happier with them, but they are far too big and
cumbersome.

Probably because the aliens you encounter didn't build Halo.  Who built
Halo?  That's sort of the point of the game.

Halo is not a proper FPS.  By that I assume that it has a story and a plot,
it's not as bland and utterly boring as something Id releases every other
year or so.  I can see how you compare it to Tomb Raider because (a) it
doesn't center around a big ***ed woman and (b) apart from driving a few
vehicles there are no third person views at all.

I agree. Would be even better on a PC (with mouselook controls) but it
is the best action FPS ever. Knocked my all-time favs of Half-Life and
Jedi Knight off the top spot. (I have high hopes for Jedi Knight 2
which should be in the stores within 2 weeks!).

Obiwan does suck horribly. Most XBox games are average, port-ware.
Overall the system isn't worth buying yet IMO (I won mine, woohoo!).

True, they've nailed the car-sliding control better than any previous
rally game IMO, even when just using the hand-held XBox controller.

Incorrect. In the vehicle-control mode a 3rd-person view is of course
provided (with a particularly innovative and effective control scheme
I must say). But on-foot it's FPS all the way. The controls even mimic
mouselook.

Are you <ahem> fairly young?  Because every *** male I know who has
tried it feels very comfortable with the Xbox controller.  Maybe you
just have small hands....
