How to set manual shift on Total Immersion Racing - XBOX

I have a 360 Modena Force GT (Thrustmaster) steering wheel. Having a
hardtime to make the dowshift pad work properly.
When I go to the control set up, and use something equivalent to what makes
the upshift paddle work...nothing happens. Help!
