Total Immersion Racing thoughts?

I'm curious to know what others think about TiR....

Here are my first impressions. The sound doesn't seem right at all on my PC.
It always sounds like I'm going the same speed, which really doesn't lend
itself to the sensation of speed at all. It's like I just have the sound of
a fan, and I'm missing the combustion sound and the road sounds. The force
feedback isn't force feedback at all, it's "vibration". My wheel constantly
wants to pull to the left too and going over the rumble strips doesn't even
vibrate the wheel. The tracks don't look like what I'm used to seeing in
other games and on TV. There's a lot of things that seem to be added to stop
people from cutting chicanes and such.

When the cars hit together it sounds kinda weak, and there's no damage like
I was hoping. The driving itself feels sort of wrong too. Like there's a few
extra forces acting in my favour on purpose (and yes, I turned of ALL the
driving assists). There's also a large deadzone in the wheel. But, it does
support split-axis pedals.

The graphics are fantastic, and the car models look amazing in action!! The
replays look really good too, the camera has more of a "human" feel to it. I
also like the sleek minimal interface. Really clean...

The AI seems to be what they are advertising here. It seems fine to me..
But, they seem to do weird things sometimes, like the back end will start
shaking. But it's not during braking or anything, it looks kind of wrong.
But they put up good competition. I have a feeling the "Mario Kart Catch-Up"
effect is in.. uhmm.. effect. When I'm ahead, they don't seem to like that..
but when I'm behind, they seem to want me to catch up. Maybe I'm wrong about
that too though. I haven't compared laptimes.

Granted, I've only played it for a few hours. I think it's fun, don't get me
wrong. But.. I don't know.. just doesn't seem too right. Granted, I've been
playing LFS and F12002 for a few hours already tonight. Maybe TiR is just
"different" and I'm not used to it.

The way it stands right now, I think this game might be better off with a
few gamepads and some random friends. Y'know?

I also like the replays.  I can't think of anything else I like about this
game though. The sound really is bad and I do not feel like I'm driving car.
The speedometer says I'm going 137, but it feels more like 37.  With all the
decent (at least half decent driving games available), I can't recommend
this. (See the Revved review a while back, I think it's pretty good).

Yeah, I'd have more fun playing it if the sound made sense at all. Maybe
it's an issue with certain cards.. or the engine manages to stay at the same
RPM regardless of speed :)

Yeah.. But they really didn't pull of "Arcade" quite as good as they could
have either.

I want you to read the racing features document at:

http://www.simracingworld.com/html/news/news/2002/11/1/#730

There must be two games; the one people are talking about and the one
they released. Ooops! They accidently released the wrong game!

They've got an imaginative marketing department - they really have.

It doesn't want to work on my P4 2.2 + 4600 + XP. I can't calibrate my LWFF
and in the game after a brief fly into it it starts going at about 1fps.
Must be something wrong somewhere!

Andi.

Turn off force-feedback and see if that fixes the problem.

I turned off FF on my MS wheel and it runs smoothly...is there a patch for
this?
The problem now being that the steering is just so 'loose'. Is there a way
to firm this up without turning on the FF?

Ideally Empire will patch this because it's very poor programming!

Thanks.
