Video Cards: ATI 9500 or NVidia FX5600?

by Icer » Tue, 13 May 2003 03:24:05

Looking for an "interim" card to tide me over in a new system
(3.0gz-800mz) until the latest NVidia and ATI cards come out. I'm not
impressed with the ATI 9800 Pro or the NVidia FX 5800 (really not
impressed with that one!) and would actually buy a 9700 Pro if it was
a little cheaper ($299 where I shop). I can get the 5600 or 9500 (128
meg) for $165 and it seems the 9500 (Red PCB by Sapphire) can be set
to run at close to 9700 Pro performance. My biggest fear is it (The
ATI card) screwing up IL2, Falcon 4, and other games I play so i'm
leaning toward staying with NVidea for now.

Whats the skinny?

Thanks

same boat; I went for the PNY 5600 256MB card as an interim card.

Somewhat pricey at $226, but I figure the 256MB and full DX9.1 will
keep it useful longer than the 128MB alternatives in its class.

Come fall I'll be putting in a Prescott CPU and a top-of-the-line GPU,
demoting the 5600 to my P3 box.
