OT: anyone seen a ti4200 vs ati 9500 direct comparison?

I'm trying to find out where the two cards stand in relation to each
other.  Can't find much that directly compares them.  Anyone see anything?

Here is a link to a comparison between the 9700, 9500, 9500Pro and a Ti4600.
The Ti4200 is supposed to be about 10% less performance than the Ti4600.  Of
course the Ti4200 can be overclocked to near the Ti4600 specs, so this
review may be close.

Correction:  The 9500 is not reviewed, just the 9500Pro.

That should cover it...LOL

I don't think I have ever ran across a review that covered that many options
at one time.  Great review.

Just a guess, but you might find this interesting...:-)

Btw, once you start to turn up the resolution and turn on AA, this card
does not compete with the 4200......

To quote Anand's review of the 9500 Pro:

" Thanks to an improved driver, new board design with an optimized layout
and a full 128MB of memory the [ATI 9500 Pro] is able to compete with the
GeForce4 Ti 4600 instead of being just barely faster than the Ti 4200."

The two tests kinda contradict each other.  I wonder if the Tom's Hardware
test was done with updated drivers?  Even the anatech site used 2.x drivers,
aren't the 3.x out?
Basically Toms says the 4200 & 9500pro are very close.  Anatech says that
(at least up to 1280 screen rez's) the 9500pro is faster.  hmmm.

Not quite sure I follow you Dave, I only browsed through both articles
just now and thought I saw roughly the same pattern in the tests, the
9500 PRO settling nicely in between the 4200 and the 4600 in "regular"
tests, turn on FSAA and Aniso and it blows them away, am I missing
something here ?

If this review was done in November then I would guess they used Cat2.5 and
DX81.  I noticed a quite a large performance gain using the Catalyst 3's +
DX9 on a 9700 so I would assume similar on all the ATI parts.  Beeeutifus ;)

Dave check out the Albatron Ti 4200p turbo. Its built with 3.3ns ddr ram and
has alot of Ti4600 features. Best of all it's about $175.00.

I don't see that much performance difference between $200 G4 variant and a
9500 Pro except the latter's support of DX9.  To GPL fanatics, this means
nothing, but if yer planning on buying a lotta new games this year, you'll
prolly want the Radeon for DX9-only games like Metal Gear Solid and (ugh!)
***rayne.
